Newton and Budha sat under the bucolic tree. These people did not suffer from facts overload.

Today's lives are so bombrder that each new generation has to absorb billions of bits of new information. The children today are born "wired" for the electronic age. Tomorrow's generation will have brain power capable of understanding invisibility, time travel, telemetry, or such. What becomes apparent is the shift of focus of intelligence and perception. Memorizing verse or scripture was sweet for the times, but we are an evolving species.

(Not being blessed with exceptional memory, I await future scientific discoveries to enhance my mental acuity!)

I drove alone 70% of the time. I never in all my trips used an energy drink like some of my friends do. I'd drink coffee but I'd still find myself wearing down.

What always served me best to boost my energy was a high dose of adrenaline pumping music. Yep. As soon as I discovered what music did to renew my energy, I was amazed. Now on any road trip I take I'll listen to seminars and personal development stuff until I start yawning. Then I wake myself up with music that gets my blood pumping.

One of the things I also learned to adapt from my road warrior days was avoiding eating a big ass meal before or while I was driving long distance.

If you've driven for hours before you know what a heavy meal will do for your energy. It sucks it like a vaccum. You start wanting to take a nap after a while.

Why should this be different any other time?

It shouldn't. This is why I eat smaller meals/snacks every 2 1/2 to 3 hours so that my blood sugar doesn't tank and cause my focus to plow into the wall.

Have fun,

There was a book out called "Caffeine Blues" which

gave me pause 10+ years ago. Factoids remain hazily embedded in

my brain.

Caffeine produces a full fledged fight or flight

stress response. It pumps up your adrenaline & its cohorts, it puts you

into serious stress alert... as if rabid *** Cheney was chasing you

with his shotgun. Well *** has a bad ticker and is bloated from

Haliburton profits so you get clear away. The threat is over and

within 20-30 minutes your system is back to normal. Not so

with Caffeine. 3 or 4 hours later your adrenals are still pumping

out high levels of stress hormones & still worse it is prioritizing

that production and has viritually shut down production of the many

other hormones it normally supplies. So all the little capillaries

in your brain are in vasoconstriction reducing the blood flow thereabouts

for hours on end. " Four score and 7 years ago.="...how does that go again?

While great for a quick lookup or two, it can lead to extreme brain fog and lethargy, esp. for those who suffer from ADD, fibromyalgia, and others who are sensitive to the effects of being around electronics.

I personally like to have a glass of water, splash my face with cool water, then use a spritz containing essential oils like rosemary or peppermint, open the window for a literal breath of fresh air, maybe take 5 minutes to dance a little jig to the radio or to call a friend to say hello. Works every time!

This statement is just wrong. Protein isn't even a very important source of brain food. The brain is fueled by glucose (from carbohydrates) and fats, primarily Omega-3 oils.

This center has helped my children especially the oldest who has learning problems. They work with autistic children, children with RADs, brain injuried people, people who have had strokes and even babies who are behind developmentally. This program actually rewires the brain. NO harsh drugs, it is a great therapy. There is no work involved. Check out their web site www.sensorylearning.com Mary Bolles is the founder and has a clinic in Boulder, CO. There are other locations around the U.S and the world. Not sure why this centers name isn't out there. It really works! It has been a life saver for my oldest son.

We also practice reciting family history often. At least once a week someone will say "remember the time...." and we will all chime in with our own "take" of the event. Each time we visit grandma we ask her to tell us something about her youth. Another huge brain boost happens for us when my husband reads aloud to us. He'll choose a big project once a year (last year was the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and fill in the rest of the year with smaller works.
