Momma2boys: I have three sons who have never been vaccinated. The oldest/firstborn exhibited signs of autism before he was crawling (banging head on floor). We didn't make the connection until he was 14. He was officially diagnosed at age 19 with Asperger's. I will always wonder if he had been subjected to immunizations if his would be very profound. He is very high functioning.

Autism story. Working in my pharmacy with a 2 year old autistic male with severe bowel problems - diarrhea 5-6 times daily. Tried probiotics Florajen3 FOS, Florastor for 4 months and the bowel did not settle down. My father a pharmacist had good stories when he was with The UpJohn Company in the 30's saving babies in the hospital with dysentary. Today Kaopectate has been reformulated and is the same as Pepto Bismol. As a compounding pharmacist we sourced the clay kaloin and dosed the 2yo at 1-1/4 to 2-1/2tea up to 4 times daily after each loose stool in pear juice. After 6 weeks of this dose mom declared Dr said he is now normal, not taking any meds or supplements and look is now in training pants at 3 yo. I think the kaolin soaked up the metals/toxins and things moved back to normal.

I also read Dr W. John Martin MD PhD suggesting a cause of autism to be a stealth CMV virus from polio vaccine production grown on the green monkey kidney tissue as most of the species is highly contaminated. He suggested the numbers track with in introduction of the polio vaccine.

No Tamiduncan, I do not have to believe. I don't dismiss the experience of parents, but on its own that experience is inadequate. It is only an indicator that proper research should be done. Where is this proper research?

I looked at the site you recommended. There is a link there called "Find a Lyme/Autism doctor". Of 21 people listed there, 13 are practitioners of alternative medicine and 11 of those are not medical doctors at all. Should I regard the rest of the site as equally reliable?

Oh - I could not find any peer-reviewed articles to back up Klinghardt's claims.

We need to look into ultrasound and dopler technology used in pregnancy, as these may be a significant threat to the fetus. Has anyone looked into this? As well the EMF from sitting at a computer hours a day?

To those who believe that vaccinations are the only cause of autism - I personally know a family with unvaccinated identical twins and only one is on the spectrum. He had a general anesthetic and antibiotics prior to his developmental regression. His twin brother had neither. Their mother was diagnosed with and treated for lyme before she was pregnant. No one is beating their door down to ask Why?

We can't be so short-sighted to only focus on one single thing as the trigger. There are multiple toxic assaults that can push a stressed immune system over the edge, into downward spiraling dysfunction. Perhaps it's a combination for most kids - high EMR and RF, molds, infections, food additives, pasteurized milk products, processed grains and sugars, antibiotics, flame retardant chemicals in pj's, toxic chemicals in new mattresses, formaldehyde in kitchen cabinets, toxins from carpets, lead in old house paint and toys, plastic food and drink containers (esp if microwaved), fluoride/toxins in tap AND bottled water, mercury from mothers fillings..... I could go on all day.

Vaccines are just one part of a horrific chemical cocktail our kids are exposed to from the moment they are conceived. I wish I'd known I had the option to skip many of them for my son and request single doses of perhaps just Measles and Polio - spaced apart at sensible intervals. I didn't know there was any other option than the current vaccination schedule. He won't be getting any more due to his now severely damaged immune system.

As for what caused my sons' ASD - I believe it was a combination of multiple factors and vaccinations were just one. Over the last few years I have removed and/or repaired many of the factors I believed to be triggers. He's now recovered and in a regular school with no aide - he has close friendships and is a star student.

It's NOT an easy fix, but recovery is possible. I uncovered the unique set of triggers for my child and worked very hard to reverse the damage.

Tamiduncan - I went to yahoo and signed up for the one group that claims to have non-vaccinated children with autism. I'm waiting to hear back from them. They have 10 members. The other autism groups have members with vaccinated children and their numbers exceed 1,100 members.

In my humble parenting experience with my children and watching other people's children is that children are born perfect, not flawed as this scientist espouses. I think all vaccinated children are damaged in one form or another. It is just more apparent with autistic children. Most children of this generation simply cannot heal from simple illnesses or just concentrate at school. Sure, there are dietary factors and familial factors. These have always been factors. Children are different today and not in a good way and the common thread in all of this is the excessive vaccines.

This question is all about science. You just can't answer me and I doubt that anybody can. No one follows unvaccinated children. It's not popular or cost effective. The money is in vaccines and the sickness that they produce. This article is just a smoke screen to the real problem. So what kind of science is this really?

Dr Mercola - thanks for your reply, but I remain puzzled. You frequently, and quite rightly, cite in this newsletter scientific publications that are relevant to your messages. So are we to believe something because there is scientific evidence, or because someone like Dr Klinghardt asserts it without subjecting his assertions to scientific testing? How do we know he is right? Who has replicated his observations under controlled conditions? Should we practise health care by following untested claims or by relying on scientific evidence? In short, do you value science or not?

I don't doubt that vaccines and various other toxins that our children are exposed to from before birth (mercury/amalgam, fluoride, anitbiotics, pesticides, lead, etc.) combine with some sort of genetic susceptibility to cause autism. Like many other diseases (e.g. cancer) there will not be one simple answer, one single exposure that causes autism. However, I doubt that Lyme disease plays a central role in autism. At best it could only be one of a number of infectious or pathogenic agents that may play a part. In New Zealand Lyme disease is vritually unheard of; all reported cases are in people who have recently travelled in a country in which lyme disease is endemic.

Despite this, rates of autism in NZ are very similar to rates in the US and other developed countries, and rates have accelerated incredibly over the last 20 to 30 years. When I was at school I knew no autistic children, and only learnt of the condition at about the age of 16 when I read a book about a child in the UK. Now 1 in 100 children have autism here.

Other learning, behavioural and neurological conditions were not uncommon and considerably more prevalent than autism, yet other than ADHD the prevalence of these have remained relatively constant. I believe that ADHD, aside from being grossly overdiagnosed (and thus overtreated) is also linked to environmental exposures and a diet of processed food filled with chemicals and additives.

It is interesting that viruses and other infectious agents have also been proposed as causal agents for diseases such as breast and prostate cancer. How convenient for the pharmaceutical industry; more grist for the ever increasing vaccine mill that churns out ever increasing numbers of vaccines we are expected to give to our children. Nevermind that these diseases have been around for decades, centuries, if not millenia. Why is it only in the 20th and 21st century are they causing conditions like cancer and autism? Chemical exposures including pharmaceuticals!

Hmmmm....very interesting. I have a hard time, however, with the Lyme and mold hypotheses. I know that both substances are very toxic. But why would there suddenly be such an epidemic of Lyme disease and why are we suddenly so intoxicated by molds, when both of these are things that mankind has been exposed to since the beginnings of time? This just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe part of the very complex puzzel, but I can't see them as being the primary catalyst.

We have been down the autism journey for 7 years now. I can tell you that this is information I WISH I would have known back then. My ASD son and myself are BOTH affected by Lyme disease, metal toxicity, mold exposures and regress when around high levels of EMF.
