People with degrees and who are plenty competent, like myself are also floundering right now. I had a child... I was working several jobs to keep myself and our family afloat, his dad disappeared. My options were then work a million jobs while daycare raised my child or work only a 30 hour weekday job and then get a few hours from a second job on the weekend. This job allows me to put my kid on the bus and meet him at the bus after. He is only 3 yrs old. I didn't smoke, drink, do any drugs (before, during or after my pregnancy) but he has autism. I don't how tv could cause autism... but I know that the sickening reality of my overworking left him in the hands of someone who used tv as the babysitter so its very possible since it requires no interaction from them. As I was graduating with my AA and prepared to take on the possibility of a $40,000/yr job the state passed a mandate that you had to have a BA... all that school money down the drain, no job prospects and now a special needs job. These things are not happening because we are not willing and able to take care of our kids...they are happening because society now runs on a less family oriented operative... in order to get AHEAD - you have to leave your family BEHIND. I chose to make less, and I'm suffering, but I get to be the one who puts my kid in the tub- to bed, and play with him. It sucks, and in other countries they actually pay a stipend to reward stay at home moms- but in this country that would be like reinstating welfare so it will never happen- but for those of us suffering- open your eyes... some of choose to live on little to give our kids as much of ourselves as possible. I could choose to work 80 hour weeks- but I wouldn't get to see my child smile and laugh and play or help him and watch him improve with such a devastating diagnosis as autism. You have no idea what it is like to love someone so much who barely realizes what that means.

Mercola.com is doing a wonderful job of getting vital information out to the public. So more web sites like Mercola.com focused on children and parents will be the way to beat the harmful commercial advertisers at their own game fair and square!

If my body wants a Mc D burger for breakfast it's going to get it. If my kids want breakfast cereal for supper that's fine. And if they don't want to eat a meal at all.. then that's fine too because they are thinking for themselves and tuning into what the body wants.

Release the need to control the body. How programmed are you?

The kids can't go buy their food! It's Mom and Dad! I find that there is a climate of FEAR in the parents today- I know a bunch of parents who won't let their kids outside to play, to hang out with the other kids, and just be kids. We didn't give our kids TV's... EVER. Not even when they were in High School. What the heck do parents put TVs in the kids' rooms for? Make the kids go out to play. When not outside, make them DO things- some hobbies, puzzles, the homework, crafts. We lived in a TINY house once, with six children, for a few years- I bought a little rebounder, the kids invented running and jumping games with it- played for hours! Yes, it can be noisy- but that is better than TV. "TV- it's the drug of the nation". Kill your TV's.
