After it was determined that there was melanine in US baby formula I contacted Enfamil by phone. I have a 6 month old infant who is still nursing but also takes formula. Anyway they swore up and down that the media reports were false and they had made a mistake. They said that the story was retracted and there were in fact NO traces of melanine in their formula. When asked if they could put that in writing and send me a copy they began to squirm saying they were not issuing such statements at this time. Needless to say my daughter is taking an organic baby formula when necessary. I nursed my son for close to 2 years because he had seizures and I was working part time so I really wanted to make sure he got a lot of time to bond and benefit from breast milk. However I could only nurse my daughter for about 6 months full time and then I had to supplement with formula. People don't understand that pumping at work can become an issue due to our Corporate driven society. Canada and other countries who value the family structure and allowing people sufficient time to bond with their children have the right idea. Too much greed in the US.

My daughter was recently hospitalized with kidney crystals in her urine, she was very sick. We now know that it was from eating the recalled candy that contained melamine in it. This is very sad, when I called to let the FDA and CDC know about her illness so that they could document it, they didn't take any information from me. The only thing we can do is to watch closely what are children are eating, my kids ate only major name brands candies for halloween, so it was a major name brand of candy that made her sick.

Fear of all things Chineese - seems to be an issue. Lets not forget that traditional Chineese medicine and healthcare is focussed on staying healthy, and stimulating the body to heal itself. Most Chineese are much healthier than most Americans.

I adopted a native alaskan baby last Feb. and got her on the homemake formula from Weston A. Price. She is remarkably healthy. Our naturopath says she is healthier than breastfed babies whose mom's drink pasteurized milk . I know she is healthier than my breastfed bio babies were before I knew what I know now about food, milk, and health in general. If you know anyone that has babies on formula, warn them!!!! Formula is criminal. All of these greedy industries are corrupt through and through.

I think we all need to pay a more attention to these findings, and add this chemical into the other little trace's of chemicals in other foods the FDA approves, then add those trace's of chemicals to the FDA approved meats and fish, and produce, then add those in the plastic containers, cleaning supplies, dry cleaning solutions, and combine with the aluminun added to most deodorants, then maybe we can ALL make educated decision on what is safe and what isn't safe, WHEN WE KNOW what our realistic "daily consumption" is. Sadly, with all the chemicals found in our food, even breast feeding can not stop the chemicals from getting to a healthy baby. When we look at just one product and the small amount of poison in it, it doesn't add up to much, but when we combine it with all the other chemicals we consume daily, and feed our kids and pets, there is reason why the USA has one of the highest Cancer rate's in the World, and why cancer in itself is considered a Western Disease - or aka, the "Rich Man's disease" and why we have so many young people and pets with cancer. Did we ever have Vetinarian Oncology Groups 20 yrs ago?? Prior to 1940 and the Industrial Revolution when things were still about quality vs quantity, before drug companies took over and the FDA began to follow, cancer was at a minimun in the USA. You notice the Gov't and/or the Drug industry doesn't encourage people to drink pure Green Tea everyday? Why would they? We might need less drugs and experience less illnesses, which means someone will LOOSE money!! As long as we all keep getting sick, there's big bucks to be made.

Thank god my daughter would not drink anything from a bottle (not even my milk).

I nursed my darling until she was 2 years old, to the consternation of my family & friends.

The real scare here isn't the products that are clearly labeled Made in China, nor the fake "food" that we force on our infants, the real scare should be the MILLIONS of products of unknown country of origin.

My company makes bolts & nuts, and BY LAW, we have to inform the purchaser of country of origin.

But, for the food we feed our elderly, infants & sick, no such law.

Any one else wonder why Congress dropped the issue after the dog deaths & poisoned toys?

China owns us. We just aren't smart enough to figure it out yet.

One more reason I question the intellect of my fellow Americans. Congress obviously is killing us, financially & health, and yet we dutifully went back to the polls and voted all the power brokers right back into office.

Our demise is going to be really ugly.

I received the same information and photos of Melanine from a friend in the UK as the one Dr Mercola includes in this article. The only difference is that the photos of the suffering babies in China undergoing treatment had not been removed from mine. Why is dr. Mercola sanitizing the info? Is it to spare us the sight of suffering? Americans do not have the stomach? Bring the point home, show us everything!

It is somewhat hypocritical that the media and press go to town over contaminated milk and baby formula produced in China yet instances of toxins and contaminants discovered in formula produced in the USA, UK & Europe barely make the news - call me cynical if you like but this lack of public information in this respect has got to be linked to the fact that these manufacturers provide the media with copious amounts of advertising revenue. The globalist food and formula producer Nestle is a prime example of a manufacturer which promotes its products heavily via the media and press.

As mothers, when making choices that influence the health outcomes (both short & long term) for our infants, childrens and selves it is imperative that the information we are provided with is factual, honest, and upto date. It is obvious that org's such as the FDA and the manufacturers, due to financial implications cannot be relied upon for impartial advice, prefering to be economical with the truth as they act to protect their own interests above those of the public.

For the small percentage of mothers and infants who for medical reasons are unable to breastfeed or use donated / banked human milk, quality control and monitoring of formula products is vital.

Phthalates and Bisphenol-A

These are endocrine disrupting industrial chemicals. Phthalates are used as plasticisers and are testicular toxins as well as estradiol imitators.

Bisphenol-A is used in the production of polycarbonate plastics and has been found in plastic baby bottles. It can leach from the container and has been known to be estrogenic since 1938. Bisphenol-A resins are used as lacquers to coat metal products such as food cans. With a high affinity for fatty products, it has been shown to leach into the content of cans during the autoclaving process, including cans of milk based infant formula.

Contaminants in water used to reconstitute concentrated and powdered formula

Lead

Lead in water used to reconstitute formula can cause elevations in blood lead levels if used from the hot

water tap or boiled. Boiling concentrates lead. There is a 6 point IQ drop for every 10ug increase in blood lead levels.

Nitrates

Infants fed formula reconstituted with nitrate-contaminated water are at risk for potentially fatal methemoglobinemia. Nitrates are converted to nitrites by the baby resulting in hemoglobin being converted to methemoglobin that cannot bind molecular oxygen. This risk increases if babies under six months are also fed baby food with high concentrations of nitrates such as green beans and bananas.

Atrazine

Atrazine is a weed killer that causes mammary and uterine cancer in rats. In the cities and towns with

the worst tap water contamination, formula-fed babies who consume reconstituted formula would receive a lifetime dose of this chemical in the first four months of their lives.

Bacteria

Significant bacterial contamination can occur during home preparation of powdered infant formula.

Reconstituted formula stored in the refrigerator shows increasing bacterial counts over time.
