They had 4 very healthy boys who grew up to become smokers and coffee drinkers. My mom also smoked and drank coffee. My grandma did die at ae 68 of cancer (ran in her family) and my grandpa lived to be 91. My dad is 73, still smokes and drinks coffee and is in excellent health. My mom, too. All 3 of my uncles are in their 60's and all are healthy and hale. No heart issues. No health problems. All in great shape. All drink coffee. My father-in-law is in his mid 60's and he drinks a ton of coffee. My mother-in-law drank coffee and smoked while pregnant with all 4 of her kids, and all are healthy with no problems. (I am 49, my husband 45).

These articles need to be taken with a grain of salt. Man/woman has drank coffee since it was discovered. People have drank tea, coffee, and chocolate for generations.

A lack of selenium in the diet will cause a perfectly helthy person to fall over dead with a heart attack and die instantly. Perhaps it isn't caffienne but the lack of minerals in ou soils and food that are causing heart and other health problems. I just don't buy this article.

Coffee can make some sick when pregnant. One of my friends would feel nauseous if she smelled anything mint while pregnant. Another couldn't abide the smell of meat cooking. How are these items unhealthy? Eggs cooking made me feel ill in the early months with my 1st child, are eggs bad for you? I could eat them again once I was about 5 months on. So, aversion to foods while pregnant does NOT necessarily mean that food is bad for you!

And, we are not mice! :)

My children were born average size and are now adults and healthy. My mother also drank coffee being pregnant with me (back in the 50's).

However, soy really caused in big problem in my daughter. She could not take regular formula so I gave her soy milk when baby. At 4 yrs. old she developed J.R.A. (immune disorder) and in her teenage years, she did not develop a menstrual cycle. She also had others friends with the same disorder and asked if they had been raised on soy. Yes, they had! My daughter recovered from the J.R.A. within a year, and her menstrual cycle did not began until age of 24, when we first discovered the cause of her hormonal imbalance, soy! I talked to Dr. Kaayla Daniel and she gave me a couple of ideas of how to cure my daughter, such as taking "virgin coconut oil" and a wholesome natural diet and within 3 months my daughter finally began to ovulate. Since then, any soy product is forbidden in our house.

It is my belief that why so many women are infertile today - soy in every food product. I have also met many women who drank soy during pregnancies and delivered boys with inverted sex organ. One of my friends is a doctor and he tells me that is it pretty common nowdays, but apparently no one is questioning what the mother ate or drank during the pregnancy.

While in my 2nd pregnancy (around 1993) it was an extremely hot day. I started drinking a 32oz glass of iced tea and sipped it all day. Woke up at 1am with contractions (I was in the 7th month). I was dehydrated because of the caffeine and thus went into early labor. Spent the rest of the pregnancy on bed rest and she was born 2 weeks early. I think caffeine is much more dangerous than the FDA lets on.

However, I always knew the minute I became pregnant because I could no longer stand the smell of coffee, let alone drink it! And I loved coffee!

I think it's amazing that my body protected my four children from something we had not yet learned was a hazard to the newly forming babies.

But back when I was making my four babies, who knew? I was a coffee drinker and [gasp] a smoker. Low birth weight was never a problem (ask my 10-pound baby!) All four are healthy adults, and my two boys have their father's tall lean physique.

P.S. I limit myself to one cup of java a day, and I've been smoke-free for over two years.

I had 3 ten pound babies who were and still are in perfect health. (Now adults) I ate chocolate like crazy and was addicted to diet coke. Sad to say, but I am so blessed that they are okay. I had no idea back then what I ingested could affect them like that. I stopped smoking and did not drink alcohol or take drugs, but chocolate was my "drug".
