Now, don't get me wrong, we all need to deal with our issues to live a happy, emotionally balanced life and stress can contribute to poor health. However, stress is NEVER the only source of disease or conditions like fibromyalgia. Supporting such claims only empowers physicians who love to tell patients "it's all in your head" and then refer them to psychologists for treatment. I have a degree in Biological Health Sciences and am now finishing my doctorate in Molecular Biology. I plan on going to medical school following graduation because of my experience with this issue. I suffered for years at the hands of countless doctors from a misdiagnosed endocrine disorder which manifested first as hypothyroidism and severe chronic fatigue by age 19. By age 26 I had osteoporosis, debilitating insomnia, and fibromyalgia. I was 29 before a very astute NP thought to check my hormones...which of course were comparable to a post-menopausal woman in her 70's. With the help of numerous bio-identicals I have improved. I eat a gluten-free diet, only organic fruits/veggies, with occasional organic grassfed meats. I grew up in a wonderful family and have a life overflowing with love and support. No "stress' induced my disease. I truly believe environmental toxins are to blame, and Depo-Provera.

She has a book out called "Starving Brains". I think it is still available if you search the net. Below is something she wrote a while back about LDN for autism.: (all my best to all, from Aletha)

Along with many other treatments for autism, I do discuss LDN extensively in my book, describing my clinical experiments in 2005, then creation of a transdermal form for kids who can't swallow capsules. Since then over a hundred compounding pharmacies have been given that formula in the US as well as other countries where I have taught about autism, and many thousands of children with autism have been or are currently using LDN with a 75% "Overall Benefit" rating from a large e-database of parent responses. LDN is not only for helping the immune system, but for sociability and cognitive enhancement which greatly pleases the parents of these children. It is not a "stand-alone" treatment for autism, but an important part of an overall bio-medical protocol for this disorder that is helping unprecedented numbers of children to improve and even recover.

Had my Dr told me about LDN when I was first diagnosed it would have saved me alot of anguish and needless suffering. I advocate here in Calif. and blame our Government for lack of funds for Dr. Zagons research. He has over 200 published papers on LDN and OGF. My interview is on YOU Tube from the last Conf. By the way thanks to this wonderful drug I am off disability and back to work something I never thought would happen. More people when first diagnosed NEED to GET on this DRUG and we need to educate our Dr.'s and retrain our Government to WORK for us and NOT THEMSELVES! To anyone who might be thinking about trying LDN...JUST DO IT you have nothing to loose, LDN can't hurt you.

My own theory on a lot of illness is that the spirit/soul/mind sometimes sabotages the body in order to save itself.

I have in my own life seen this, and observed it in the lives of others.

It is sad that sometimes it takes illness for us to take time out for ourselves.

In my own case, the longer I 'soldiered on' the worst my health became.

I was already eating a pretty healthy diet but quitting all gluten made the biggest difference in my health--especially the fibromyalgia and IBS. I have convinced a few members of my family and a few clients to try it and they have had similar results. I would try reducing toxins and going gluten free and adding Vit D/sunlight etc first before using medications. Of course if one has tried everything else and still needs help it is good to know about drugs that are are effective and relatively safe. As Dr M says modern medicine can sometimes be useful. Let's don't throw out the baby with the bath water (as my Grandma used to say!)

As far as the emotional component--it does not mean that our emotions have caused the illness--in fact physical illness can cause depression. But learning ways to deal with our pain and illness can be helpful--and help us to feel empowered. Of course I completely understand why people get upset when they hear this --it is very frustrating to be told it must be your emotions when it is really something toxic in your life, or you were injured or got an infection from a tick bite! According to the ancient wisdom of the Daoists(Chinese medicine) our body and minds are the same thing there is no such thing as being separate. so helping the mind will help the body as helping the body helps the mind. It does not have to be an either/or matter. I have used organic whole foods, herbs, supplements, massage, meditation/prayer, Qigong, and Acupressure to help in my healing process and changing how I think about my illness has had a great effect also. I wish all of you the best on your healing journeys.
