Frankly I would much prefer the extra protine of insect parts to pesticides in my food but then I was not raised by a histericly squimish mother.

I've tried it. I could see keeping it up IF there is health merit. I try to munch the seeds pretty thoroughly--but they're not really all that tasty.

I put some in my daily carrot juice. They have extremely dark red color which should be very beneficial (it is recommended that we consume colorful vegetables as all those colors work as antioxidants - or at least that's what I heard). I also eat a lot of green leafy vegetables. And some berries too altough they are a little hard to come by here in Japan - apart from strawberries of which there is more than plenty).

So, red beets opinions please?

There have been several studies recently that have concluded that Vit C, Vit E do not have anti-cancer effects even thou they have antioxidant properties.

It makes me wonder if the health benefits are more related to the anti-microbial properties then the antioxidant properties?

It is already known that ROS and RNS are utilized as a part of the immune system to destroy microbes and in the enzimatic detoxification system.

Is there a point of having too much antioxidants in ones body?

2. What about talking about the need to choose organic with certain fruit, i.e. strawberries, raspberries, grapes.

3. The advice to avoid berries is ludicrous...avoiding sugar and white flour will allow you to eat all the fruit you like.

4. Studies usually show strong evidence that eating the 'whole' food instead of ingesting a separated compound will offer benefits much greater. The benefit of singling out one compound will often negate its health claim - the reason behind selling a separate component is for monetary gain.

5. Bring back the 'whole food' intelligence!

Irrespective of what can be done to preserve our bodies, there is one aspect that may defeat any desire to live too long and that is the psychological impact of longevity. The 16c dramatist Shakespeare wrote of the 'seven ages of man' and his observations still prevail today. When our generation has gone and we are left behind and treated as if one is an imbecile by younger generations the feeling is not comfortable and Aubrey de Grey seems to avoid this issue.

If I recollect correctly the lovely strawberry is suspected of suppressing the thyroid which may advance the increase in weight gain so are there any other hidden dangers in those delicious fruits? I subscribe to Dr Mercola's suggestion of a little but not too often. Personally I enjoy the bowl of berries with fresh cream but only as the occasional luxury.
