My liver enzymes were in the 800 range, and bilirubin was 23.7. (a fatal level). One doctor wanted to put me in the hospital and induce me into a coma and put me on a transplant list. Another doctor me home with a bunch of herbal medicines and told me to juice fresh veggies three times a day and drinks lots of meat broth made from naturally raised pasture based meats. So I went home and did what the second doctor said. Needless to say, I pulled through, and yesterday I cut, split, and hauled a cord of firewood. I still juice using me Omega 9003 juicer I purchased from Dr. Mercola. I raise most of my grains, most of my veggies, and all of my meats, eggs and dairy. I do buy brown rice, hard white wheat for baking sour dough bread, some dried fruit and fresh citrus in winter. I don't remember the last time I went into a supermarket to buy groceries. Yes, I do eat a lot of animal fats, but they are from pasture based animals. I eat less than 7 servings of grains a week, and what grain we do eat is whole, fresh ground into flour or meal, plus brown rice. In retrospect, my doctor thinks that juicing had a lot to do with my recovery to good health.

Gardening is so easy, a few days ago it went down to 8 degrees here and we had fresh lettuce salad from the garden today. We do not have a green house nor a cold frame, just floating row covers over the beds, a $12 cloth which covers 450sf.

I made a neat filler with carrot pulp, gr onion gr pepper-vegennaise etc--and put it in a nice collard leaf as a roll up. Recently I purchased a Vita Mix. I can get everything into a one-two quart serving which i drink throughout the day. I definitely am noticing the benefit of green smoothies. I usually do not chew as well as i once did-due to missing teeth--the new machine breaks things down to a very consistent cellular level--then i 'chew' the smoothie to get the enzymes flowing. Works for me.

As for potassium---we are all bio-chemically unique--altho i tend to be between a mixed and protein type-I have discovered I need more potassium than the charts indicate. I have not heard of anyone overdosing on greens.

Sometimes the “conventional” medical community opens its arms to as new idea with eager gullibility; other times it just refuses to accept a new idea no matter what the level of proof.

(1)The Japanese are the longest-living developed people. They do not use olive oil.

And the longest-living Japanese are the Okinawans….that cook with lard!

(2)The French have the greatest longevity of “Western” peoples. But….

(a)France is only partly a “Mediterranean” country. (Truly Mediterranean countries, on “fully-Mediterranean” diets, show less longevity!)

(b)And the French region with greatest longevity, is not the Mediterranean area!

It is the South-West. (Gascogne/Perigord, and especially Le Gers).

The traditional diet here is not “Mediterranean”, and the traditional fats used are Goose and Duck, used liberally, because the area has a peculiarly “avian” agriculture and is the home of fois gras.

Yes, in general Mediteranean peoples live longer than Northen-Europeans. But too often people jump on plausible explanatory-foods, that do not stand up to rigourous analysis.

Why say it is……Red Wine, Garlic, or Olive oil

Why not say…….Parsley, Haricots verts or fois gras for that matter, which are just as characteristic of the French diet

By the way I have no axe to grind I eat all the foods mentioned.

I know that potassium is linked to insulin production, more potassium facilitates insulin production, and excess potassium in the system is encouraged to be excreted by the kidneys through increased insulin as one mechanism. Please address as this is important to electrolyte balance as well as nutrient balance.

Since my release from hospital, I have been on medication, natural unprocessed foods and daily regular juicing, beets, cucumber and celery varied with carrots, broccolli, pineapple and orange mix ( my 12 yr, old loves this blend), or apple and carrots with a little ginger or garlic. Within one month my of this diet, my platelettes and iron levels, red bood cells reached normal levels . Even with medication my platelettes barely reached the minimum level of 150,000. Last month it rocketed to over 300,000. This week, I got the cold which would normally deplete my platelettes, but it actually went up !!. My husband says we must be doing something right. I would say , in my case. The natural foods and juicing and elimination or limiting of processed foods did work. My 12 year old loves tasty food , so it is more of a challenge to get him to eat and drink everything, He does eat a lot that we cook. The vegetable juicing he does not like. Also which juicer is better the vita-mix or the omega ? Both got good reviews.

At his confirmation hearing, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said he will seek to work "with those who seek programs and practices that lead to more nutritious food produced in a sustainable way."

"There's a lot of work that can be done in this area," Vilsack said after he was sworn in.

If the First Lady makes sure that she and the President advertise what they are eating and what they are feeding their children, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha, it could be a huge help for all of the children of the world.

I have searched your site and it seems you never say more than, "will tend to cause biochemical imbalances."

Can you explain this statement?

I am a protein type but find that I need more potassium. Granted my need for more might be from drinking alcohol. Note that I do not consume any other diuretic, no caffiene, etc.

Also, I just seem to loose water more easily than anyone else, in response to even just a little bit of any diuretic. I've been taking Licorice Root Poweder as an antidiuretic. And I think this also helps the body hold onto potassium.

Also, if you happen to read this I do not understand where one gets the necessary B vitamins following your eating plan.

Thanks!
