Dave Ramsey's book 'The Total Money Makeover' is the best book I have ever read on financial fitness.

I can personally vouch for Get Rich Slowly, Wise Bread and the Simple Dollar. I've been reading all three for nearly a year and they are wonderful.

Short of an income tax revolution, the dissolution of the welfare state or the federal government somehow gaining brains and nerve at the same time, I see no improvement in the economy in the near future.

Invest at home. Learn how to sew, knit, cook, garden. Teach your children the skills that saw our grandparents through the Great Depression. Break the dependency on amusement and entertainment.

For the upcoming time (6 months, a year, or more?) the economy is going to continue to deflate.

Corporations are slashing salaries and benefits. Foreign companies are slashing prices to try and force sales. Stores are slashing prices to sell anything.

This downward trend in income and expenses will continue. The problem is that the upward pressure from taxes and the necessities are going to explode. Interest & fees, Utilities, taxes & food is going to take even bigger chunks out of a smaller paycheck.

Stock up on survival necessities, because when the foreigners finally figure out they sucked us dry of our jobs and then our purchasing power, they are going to stop lending Washington money-we are nearly there now.

THEN, inflation is going to hit, I fully expect worse inflation than Germany saw leading up to Hitler's rise to power.

Your silver and gold won't do much good for long. My rice, beans, water, toilet paper and canned foods are going to be worth everything.

But, I'm no "expert". Of course these same "experts" are the ones that counseled the government into the mess we are currently in. So, I'm done listening to them.

From what I understand, one should have some silver and gold but in the short term, it looks like

deflation not inflation. So silver and gold will go down in the short term but long term both look

like the only way to go. I should do more to store food and especially water. Any suggestions?

I think if it gets that bad even your silver and gold would be worthless. You can't eat it or use it to heat your house. What people will need is food and fuel and they might not want to trade either for a small amount of metal..

One thing all of us can do to put more money in our pockets is demand that congress do away with the unconstitutional federal income tax and abolish the Federal Reserve, which is no more "federal" than Federal Express, so that our government can re-gain control of the mints and the printing of our currency. We should also demand an audit of the government's gold reserves, which the Federal Reserve, a private organization, lists on its balance sheet. Once we don't have to pay federal income tax, again, an UNCONSTITUTIONAL tax that should never have existed, we workers will have more money in our pockets, at no cost to our government. Well since you guys are talking about precious metals, I just joined a company where you can buy gold in small increments for those of us who are not rich. It is for those who don't want to lose their savings that is in rapidly devaluing dollars and converts it to rapidly increasing in value gold. Uncommon wealth for the common man.

In addition to the good advice above I would like to add a link that promises good advice especially for our children. Since our schools have not taught this subject in the school in the past nor is likely to teach the subject in the future this is an excellent site for us all.

You aint kidding Kelly!

I've been purchasing silver for a while now. Almost 8g's worth. The economy and the dollar are going to hell in a hand bucket! I believe it'll be worthless by the end of the year! Like you said, it's not about making money...it's about having money when the dollar isn't worth the paper it's printed on! Stock up on food too! Vacuum pack brown rice, beans, dried fruit, beans and meat with oxygen absorbers as well as have extra propane, bullets, and toilet paper on hand just incase there is wide spread panic in the streets!

Live long and win the lottery! PS. Junk silver coins (90% silver) are still a good bargain now. And will be good barter when the sh!t hits the lawn mower, sooner than you think!

Let's all hope and pray that I'm (we're) wrong but why take a chance when the government has turned their back on the constitution and become a printing press!
