Just like all drivers of cars all are not safe, all users of ear candles are not useing them safely. The right way of using ear candles is to sit upright, never lay down. The ear candle must fit the ear without falling out so no outside air is drawn in. Go to bibkit.com and read about proper use of ear candles.

I look forward to your re evacuation of ear candles.

Best wishes for your good health,

I have been a reader of your newsletter and regard you as a source of good information regarding health issues, however I beg to differ with you on the subject of ear candles. Just because some drivers are bad drivers and cause accidents all drivers can't be blamed for bad driving. All users of ear candles must take repsonsibility for using them probably. An ear candle should be used sitting upright never laying on your side. The candles must fit into the ear without falling out in order to get a proper fit that dosen't allow outside air to be drawn into the ear. Go to bibkit.com for information on how to ear candle. I would like for you to be informed on the good uses of ear candles.

Best wishes for your good health,

It seems that Dr M isn't interested in testing out his "it's not wax theory" for us but even if it was proved that the stuff that comes out isn't wax, I for one will continue to use something which is cheap, can be done at home, is safe (using the right candles of course and with a bit of common sense!) and gives me and my family enormous relief which has never been replicated anywhere else or by any other means.

Apart from anything else, if these candles cause nothing but a placebo effect, it's a bloomin' good one. They smell nice, they are natural, the process is relaxing, it clears my sinuses and ears and in a world of chemicals and medical intervention, something I can wholeheartedly recommend.

It is vital to place the candle into the ear ( by a trained person), in such a way as to create a vacuum, no smoke should be coming from the ear. The candle should be lit, and primed by closing the un-lit end with your finger, before placing it gently into the ear canal. - Don't use an ear candle if you have no problems, healthy protective earwax, designed to remove impurities, should not be disturbed. - If you have totally blocked ears, wax is nearly black, you would waste your money trying to remove it with an ear-candle. - Do use it: - If you have frequently blocked ears ( not swimmers ears), an ear candle will remove "some" wax, and will help to restore the natural ear-wax flow function. - Musicians, who are complaining of lost high frequency hearing, will in most cases be helped. Is it successful in all cases? No, nothing is - it always depends on the underlying causes. - Do use it for general hearing loss - it's worth a try. - Do use it for dizziness if no other causes are found - it's worth a try. - And do use it after colds, etc if you have a feeling of blocked ears, it usually helps. - And lastly, the candle is not only used simply to remove wax, it is also used to establish equilibrium between the outer and inner ear. (osmosis). Patients with ear infection, who didn't regain proper hearing, even if their wax was removed with a syringe, would be help by candling. Interestingly enough, after the treatment, the ear canal may show some light pale wax ... the natural flow had been re-established.

When we were small My mom had a wonderful way of using warmed peroxide to treat earaches & was great for ear wax as well, although as kids impacted ear wax was not our problem.

Back then, when pill vials were made of tempered glass she would put a few teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide into a vial and stand it in a small glass of hot water to warm it. Then she'd use a dropper to do the Mommie-wrist test so it wasn't too hot & gently fill the sore ear with the peroxide, put in just enough of a cotton ball to keep it from running out, & we'd go to sleep with that ear pointing up. The wet warmth & fizzy sound gave amazing comfort & we'd be asleep in no time. The next morning, not only was the earache gone, but so was the cold, or sore throat, sniffles, or any other related complaints. All gone!

It worked equally well on my dad's ear wax as well & saved him trips to the doctor's office.

It was a warm, happy, fizzy solution for pesky childhood earaches and from what Dr. Mercola has been saying about hydrogen peroxide, not so old-fashioned, either.

This is a procedure that can be replaced by a safer one.

From my own experience and having lived in another country, there was a similar method of alternative medicine to help with ear problems, and what helped was the HEAT and WARMTH itself.

It was as much risky as the candling: Grandmothers lit a ciguarette and holding the lit side of the ciguarette IN their mouth, rounding the hollow of their mouth in such a way, so the ciguarette would not touch or burn their tongue or their mouth; then they blew the smoke in the affected ear from the filter side, holding that filter side into the ear. If they were afraid to keep the lit side in their mouth, they did it in a different way, pulling the smoke like a regular smoking, cumulating that smoke in the mouth, and blowing a large quantity of that warm smoke into the ear.

What about the residue you find while candling, it comes from the beeswax itself, and not from ears: Try to boil real raw honey with regular sugar syrup, you will be amazed to see a lot of yellow brownish residue in that boiling stuff. If boiling honey gives that residue, apparently from debris of beeswax, it's normal that you will find more residue in the candle, coming from the burning beeswax itself.

I mentioned this to a coworker, who suggested I try ear candling. After using two candles in succession, I experienced a significant decrease in pressure, which continued for the next two days until there were no noticeable symptoms. There was also about one half teaspoon of waxy substance in the tip of the second candle (nothing in the first).

Oh, and by the way, I regularly consume fish oil (Nordic Naturals) and have never had wax buildup issues apart from this one instance.

I used oil,Hydrogen Peroxide, thewater baths, Then Someone told me about candleing and I thought I have nothing to lose. It worked and it was was very dark yellow. I have been using cadle waxing for 8 months now and my ear is so much better. I was losing hearing iin that ear.

The best kind of candles to get is the ones with Bees Wax Don't do it alone, you need help for safe candleing. I don't know why they say not to use it is is easy, painless and you get results.

I bought my through Wally's Natural Products, Inc and it says clearly the precautions.

Pouring a liquid of hydrogen peroxide in my ear and assuming it just eats the wax out and causes not other harm. Has that been tested. That sounds like something more drastic to me and needs further investigation.
