The Church of Scientology both loves and hates the 1st Amendment. They love it because it shields them from any government regulation of their healthcare practices. Anyone who wants to be an MD, DO, DDS, MFT, etc has to have a professional license in good standing. This group can do its harm whether it be toxic doses of niacin which causes liver and kidney damage or to brainwash people into their science fiction nonsense. On the other hand, they hate the 1st amendment right of free speech because when people speak out against them, they assault, harass, sue and intimidate their detractors. JUST TO PROVE MY POINT, I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT THIS POST WILL RECEIVE A NEGATIVE RATING BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CENSOR IT.....

Why are so many medicinal ointments petroleum based? Why are herbal and naturopathic treatments referred to as "alternative"? Why do religiously affiliated hospitals charge so much when their Jesus healed the sick for free? I could go on with the nonsensical paradoxes of our "wealth-snare" system.

Hello, I'm Bipolar and currently take Depakote and Geodon. I have done lots of research into these medications and have found that they are toxic and cause long term liver damage and other health problems. I decided to do some research into some naturopathic methods of treating Bipolar and found a company in Canada that produces a nutritional supplement for treating mental illnesses. If you are mentally ill, you should look into this, the company is called TrueHope (www.truehope.com) and the product is called EmpowerPlus. They believe (based on supporting research and studies) that mental illness is caused by nutrient deficiencies that don't allow the brain the make the chemicals needed for proper functions and cause imbalance. Their supplement supplies the brain with the needed nutrients and correct the imbalances. They say they have a 85% success rate, and their product is endorsed by doctors at Harvard Medical and is currently used in hundreds of clinics around the US and Canada. I haven't tried it yet, but I had to share this on this thread in case anyone who is currently mentally ill is interested in a natural alternative to these dangerous psychotropic drugs. I plan on making the transition to this supplement next year when I have the resources to support myself in case of a relapse, but I'm very excited about this.

Just want to say that whether you agree with the Scientologists or not, maybe they are trying to TELL THE TRUTH about these issues and THIS IS WHY they are targeted for criticism. Other"mental health" breakthrough therapies are Electric Shock and Pre-Frontal Lobotomies which is stabbing an ice-pick type instrument into the brain. The school shootings of Columbine and many of the others had anti-depressant connections. Its CRIMINAL to be putting our youth onto powerful, unproven mind-crippling drugs. Interestingly, the FDA never says a peep about the psych drugs and the many instances of suicides and murders. Scientologists try to warn and speak out and they are ripped by BIG $ Pharma and their henchmen, the FDA--- yes it makes perfect sense.

Unfortunately most people do not want to be "informed" as they prefer someone else (i.e. with a M.D.) to tell them what to do. I try to talk to friends and family all the time about so-called medicine to no avail. I tell them all they need to do is improve their diet -- they don't need all these drugs. But they just say that "the drugs are working" but they don't want to admit that half of the drugs they are on are for side-effects of the other drugs they are on. Last week I had an ear ache with swelling inside -- possibly an ear infection. I don't know -- I've never had one in my life that I can recall. So I happened to mention it Sunday at a SuperBowl party. Here's what I got: "take some aspirin," "you have to go to the doctor -- an ear infection can cause all sorts of problems," "you need antibiotics," etc. What I did? I went to the natural store, bought some Oil of Oregano, added a dropper full to a glass of water and took this mix 2 times. Next day, infection or whatever was gone!

As to the Dianetics book, it was written by a mind-controlling, money-grabbing cult! Why would we exchange one cult (medical establishment) for another! I actually tried to read that book years ago before I knew what it was all about. There are so many made-up words and phrases you have to keep looking in the back glossary every line you read. Needless to say I never finished the book!

Just as $cientologists have the right to voice their opinions, so do people who don't espouse their views. I agree that the Rx drug industry in an environment of deregulation as has occured over the 8 years of GWB has resulted in a failure to meet the criteria of safe and effective for drugs of all types to be approved. That is a failure of government. There have also been abuses with respect to members of editorial boards of journals owning stock in these companies and therefore having a conflict of interest. These are major problems. However, a separate problem is that you have a political lobbying group THE CITIZENS COMMISSION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS which likes to portray itself as a watchdog group for consumers when in fact it is a $cientology front group that has made a ruthless, relentless assault on psychiatry because the paranoid charlatan founder of the "Church" had vowed to do so. There is not a single mainsteam mental health practitioner on the planet that would say that Scientology is anything but a cult and whose therapy is at best worthless and at worst harmful. So, this endless loop video is pure propaganda to try to convince people that psychiatry is out to destroy society. Well, that point of view came from a very disturbed and paranoid nut named L. Ron Hubbard.

Unfortunately, the first video here comes off as a very immature, highly biased, propaganda ridden critique. It is however all true. It could be vastly better done.

As a book I had to read in college, Mad in America, pointed out, the U.S. has the worst record as far as positive outcomes for any of these 'diseases'. Of course, it's getting worse all the time, as the medicalization of society is ramping up their toxic drug prescriptions.

I had the pleasure years ago of being a preschool teacher. One 3 year young boy was 'diagnosed' with some 'disorder' or another and put on some drugs. He was so playful and fun loving before, and then he turned into a zombie. What a trajedy!

It's good to see the truth coming out, but things like that video are not going to be taken seriously by many people.

Although I do agree that psychotropic drugs are way over prescribed and that we all should tread delicately in this area of medicine I still don't think it's right to blanket the whole industry as an evil killer. I had a close relative have a psychotic break and shortly after was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, the whole family was very unsure how to approach the situation because he was long gone from reality and we were scared to put him on any psychotropic medicines. With really no other avenue to take we went ahead and had him put on medication. The difference was night and day. He is now on the lowest dose of his medication and doing fairly well. The medication shut off the voices in his head, he said it was like listening to a radio all day. My point is that sometimes western medicine is effective, and sometimes it is important to treat the symptom and then later integrate alternative and preventative measures. Although this may be an isolated success this path happened to work for him, and I am glad because if that drug had not worked he probably wouldn't have made it back to any kind of functional reality. Take everything with a grain of salt and don't throw the baby out with the bath water!

I have a living disorder...it is called high anxiety; "like everyone's against me for sure"....I need a drug and I will go quietly...and you will not know I have been here ever...............I was just another nutter.......funny but the insane maybe the most normal....what am I saying!!

How long can you survive without sleeping? What if your body will not let you sleep? At what point does it make sense to try a drug to help with a problem that completly removes you from society and even reality? Be glad these drugs are there and doctors are willing to prescribe these drugs to TRY and correct a potentialy life destroying problem. Saying absolutly 'no' to every drug may cause your pre-mature death. Try every natural remedy before going the main-stream medical route, then try the drugs as a last resort. There is much more going on here then we know about, and it is not simply all related to money. Always ask "why" and remember "It never used to be like this".

As a late diagnosis [first onset age 60y] bi-polar [never having had depression, meant that it was only a total manic episode needing 3 carloads of police and an ambulance to attend to get diagnosed] I would be dead by now without the use of epilim, I have had no side effects and the rate of accidents brought on by mania has decreased to that of most people, so in my case drugs [epilim] are a lifesaver and the effect of my behavior on others is minimal. I think that an objective assessment must be made of each persons situation and then as a team effort come to the best result.

I consider myself quite fortunate for coming across Joseph Glenmullen's "Prozac Backlash" as a teenager while taking Prozac. It gave me the information and courage I needed to taper off the meds. I have since then worked with a very knowledgeable EFT therapist and realized incredible results in my emotional health, as well as consulted with a nutritionist well-versed in metabolic typing. The results are nothing short of phenomenal.

My wife's mother killed herself while on Zyprexa. Seroquil. She was addicted to the drug AND it didn't do anything for her. She could never sleep which means I couldn't sleep for almost the whole year. She became increasingly psychotic. She wasn't the same person I knew anymore. It was very sad. I had to be very selfless to care for her.

While I'm not a fan of any organized religion regardless of group, any of you that will take any pharmaceautical drugs instead of taking the natural path to good health, I say good luck to you because you are going to need it.

My first 50 to 60 years believing like my folks that the doctor knows best. I have spent the last 10 years or so reversing the effects of the drugs I was given before.

Yes if you need an xray for a broken bone, or need a blood test, go to the doctor, otherwise run, don't walk.

Oh, and be sure to listen to the FDA. They'll tell you that aspatame is safe, and so is mercury. How about some anti freeze in your flu shot to go with the mercury, and other toxic crap. In the mean time let's back the candidate that promises to cut insurance costs, by making it government run.

Oh goody, we get to stand in line for weeks waiting for our drugs. Give me a break.
