And your point is?

I am open to learning and listening. I hope you are also. I would truly like to hear your take on Wal-Mart after you do some research on the way they treat their staff.

Until I hear otherwise, I am boycotting the store, and looking forward to reading other helpful information from educated readers on how to save money while purchasing wholesome, organic, biodynamic, locally grown foods.

About the money spent on such food upfront? UCLA research recently showed that for every $1.00 spent on preventive health care, $14.00 was saved on health care down the road. So how expensive is real food since that is the only fuel upon which the body was designed to run in the first place?

Our local farmers market which started 30 years ago has always been fresh but not organic. We are lucky enough now to have a great organic produce booth as well as a booth promoting meats from pasture raised animals!!

Even the Farmers' Markets are getting the broad vision/picture.

We speak with our dollars. It is no coincidence that our truly healthy choices are increasing!!

The elavator style of music is designed to slow you down. The slower you go, the more you will put in your cart. Sometimes you will hear contemporary music. This is to make you feel happy. Most cont. selections are about love or passion. If your thinkin' of your loved ones, you'll throw something in the cart for them. Restaurants are the opposite. They play faster music so you will eat in a hurry and leave. This way, the turnover of customers will be greater.

I, too, worked at WallyWorld. We had an manager in training that would always leave the marketing sheets laying in the breakroom. The things I learned that I hadn't really noticed before...

It has made me a wiser consumer.

The thing about Walmart isn't so much what they sell as someone mentioned. It's how they treat the manufacturers of their products. A company (we'll say it sells socks) signs a contract with Walmart. Walmart takes so much of it's time and merchandise, that the mom and pop sock business may lose other clients to keep up with WM's demand. The company sells socks for a $! a pair to WM. Everything is great. Then time to renew the contract comes around. WM tells Sockland, "Hey, we've decided to lower our price of your socks. We're selling them for .60 a pair now.So you will have to lower your price to us." Now Sockland's biggest account is WM and if they lower their price, they can't afford to stay in business. If they don't sign with WM, their business is gone as well. Sockland has to do what many other manufacturers do who sell to WM. THey outsource their work to other countries to be able to meet WM's demands. People here lose jobs. Other people gain jobs, though, but not in the towns where the business is based. It's just a big vicious cycle. You can shop at Walmart or not. I'm sure other companies do the same. Just Walmart is so big that they are a natural target.

Where do you think their prices will go once they've clobbered the competition? When you have no other options in town, they can charge what they want. Yet Americans will continue to blindly shop there thinking they're still getting a great deal.

Gee, it might take some effort in order to spend the same amount on groceries, oil changes, eyeglasses, and toilet paper but other companies do compete! You might not be able to buy your hair dryer, bicycle, and shredded carrots all in the same store but you won't spend more by NOT shopping at Wal-Mart. Your community will be better for it.

On a side note, I used to work retail. Manufacturers actually pay national retailers to place their products in a specific spot on the shelf. If it's a high profit item for the manufacturer, the retailer will take payola to place it at eye level. Usually this means that the retailer is not making much money on that product. This is the reason that, for example, drug stores push their own brands. They cost pennies to make and even though the consumer is saving money, the store is making a larger profit margin. Wal-Mart is no exception to this!
