I am sure many of you got the I LOVE YOU email virus.
I got three copies. However, I did not get infected because I follow the
policy below:
Never open an attached file unless you are expecting
it and want it, even if it comes from someone you know. When you get such
a file, send the person back a standard response, which you can have saved
as one of your optional signatures in Outlook.
"You sent me an attached file but I don't open
unsolicited attached files," I start off. "This is a common
way to spread computer viruses and the larger files waste bandwidth. Please
feel free to send material as short regular email message. If you have
graphic material, post it to a website and let me know the URL."
Should you have virus protection software? Absolutely,
but even the best will not prevent the future email attachments from causing
you a problem in the future. This is the only sure fire solution I know.
