Many children put up a fight before bedtime and resist sleep, but these poor sleep habits and chronic sleep deprivation may be harmful to the child.
Although chronically sleep-deprived children may not seem tired, and may actually appear to be overly energetic, children aged 7 to 11 years need at least nine hours of sleep each night in order to function optimally.
Children who don’t get enough sleep often have difficulty with focused attention and controlling emotions, irritability and easy frustration. They are also more likely to get injured on bicycles and playground equipment. As children get older, the consequences of insufficient sleep become more severe, for example consider consequences that could occur from driving a car while tired.
What’s more is that bad sleep habits in children may lead to health problems in adulthood. Such habits have been linked to various ills including heart ailments, respiratory problems and obesity. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimate that over 70 million Americans are sleep-deprived.

Sleep is an essential part of life, but one that is often pushed aside by the consuming tasks of daily life. If you feel that you are too busy to get a full nights sleep, consider that sleep-deprivation, both in the short- and long-term, causes serious adverse health effects.
Sleep should be a priority in your life as it plays a dramatic role in your overall health--much like proper nutrition and regular exercise. Without enough sleep, your body will be challenged to reach its optimal state of health.
Please bear in mind also that the timing of your sleep--for example from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. versus 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.--will affect its quality. The more hours that you can sleep before midnight and in synch with the sun, the better off you will be.
If you find yourself lying awake at night, unable to sleep, you may be one of the many people who have problems sleeping due to anxiety, stress or other emotional challenges. For these types of concerns, EFT works remarkably well and can help to induce peaceful slumber.
