Obesity is the leading health problem for dogs in Britain, followed by traffic and disc problems, according to a study.
Dogs are often overfed at mealtimes and fed snacks throughout the day. As is the case with humans, this, along with too little exercise, causes dogs to become obese.
The study noted that good health and fitness are essential for the long life of domestic pets.
Going along with the saying that dog owners tend to look like their dogs, the proportion of obese men and women in Britain hit a record high in 2001, according to the study.

Its not very surprising that pets are also challenged with obesity. After all, over two-thirds of Americans are obese or overweight. Why should it be any different with our pets?
One would even expect the problem to be worse as we are feeding our pets highly processed foods made mostly from grains, with a few vitamins and minerals thrown in to make it appear that they are getting a "scientifically" balanced diet.
Your pets, just like you, need plenty of raw food to stay healthy. One of the popular diets for dogs is the BARF diet, which is short for Bones and Raw Food. I have listed a directory of Web sites below where you can find out more information so your pets can stay as healthy as you are by reading this newsletter.
