A
U.S. man was diagnosed with Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease
(vCJD), the human version of Mad Cow Disease in February 2003.
This could be the first case in the United States due to eating
meat infected with Mad Cow Disease or Chronic Wasting Disease.
Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease creates "sponge-like holes"
in the brain, causing severe dementia, seizures and loss of
motor and communication skills in the patient. There is currently
no known treatment or cure and the disease is fatal.
