If you ever wondered why you have so much spam, an article
in last month’s New York Times, "Confessions of
a Spam King" by Jack Hitt, provides an excellent summary
of the reasons. The author interviews a noted "spam king"
and explains the details behind his operation, which could
send out as many as 9 million spam e-mails in an hour.
Although the response rates from most spam is a minor fraction
of a percent, the cost to send these e-mails out is so low,
nearly all of the responses are converted to direct profit.
