Avocados are Berries, and Other Interesting Avocado Facts

The reason why I’m bringing up avocados is because they, along with coconuts, are an excellent source of raw fat, which most Americans are seriously deficient in. They are also a great-tasting, versatile source of dense, health-boosting nutrients, but surprisingly they are often overlooked by many Americans.

Avocados are particularly good for protein Metabolic Types, but anyone who enjoys them will likely benefit.

They’re also interesting: did you know that the avocado is a fruit? While it’s easy to see why many people categorize the avocado as a vegetable, it is actually a single-seeded berry. It, like other berries, is the matured ovary of a flower. All fruits are classified into two broad categories: dry and fleshy. The avocado falls into the "fleshy" category.

The avocado is a cultivated species, but it was domesticated so long ago and has changed so much over time that its ancestry is unknown. It is assumed that the avocado originated in or around south central Mexico, where the Aztecs originally called it the aoacatl.

I found this information at The Avocado Website, and I encourage you to check it out for other interesting avocado facts.
