The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that several states no longer have widespread outbreaks of the flu, but 38 other states still do, which was down from 42 states last month. According to a survey, fewer people are visiting the doctor for flu-like illnesses--about 8.8 percent of all outpatient visits in the end of December involved flu-like illnesses, compared with 6.2 percent in early January.
According to the CDC, the U.S. flu season started off unusually early. So far this season, 55 children have died from the flu, about half of them under the age of five. About 92 children who are under the age of five typically die each year from the flu.
Health officials warn that a second wave of the flu could occur in some areas, as the flu season typically peaks between December and February.

Just because health officials warn us that the flu season isnt over, and the second wave of the flu could occur, doesn't mean that you should run out and get a flu shot. Flu shots are full of potential problems, and the CDC admitted nearly one month ago that flu shots don't even work.
If you want to stay healthy this winter season (or anytime), there are plenty of alternatives one can take, as opposed to getting the flu shot. Here are a few alternatives I have found to help you combat the flu this season.
Exercising is one of the best methods to fight the seasons flu. Not only does exercising get you in great shape but it also helps to build up your immune system to fight off infection and disease, like the flu. You can review my exercise guidelines for some great tips to get started.
Consuming foods that contain sugar are one of the worst things you can do to your body when you are coming down with something, but keeping sugar out of your diet for the long haul will do wonders for your health and make your body stronger, which will make it harder for you to catch something. Sugar decreases the function of your immune system and a strong immune system is the key to fight off the flu, along with other illnesses.
Getting enough rest will keep you strong and ensure that your body has the strength to fight off any potential invaders that can cause the flu. You can review my sleeping guidelines for some great tips to get a start on a good nights rest.
Whether we like it or not, we all face stress everyday, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off the flu and other illnesses. If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a type of psychological acupressure. EFT is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.
