Obesity is the fastest growing health threat in the United States, where two-thirds of adults are either overweight or obese, and experts from all over the world are striving to determine the best way to combat this condition.
Just last week, U.S. government officials opposed a World Health Organization (WHO) plan to fight obesity worldwide by targeting junk food and soft drinks. The WHO plan would require the food industry to cut the levels of sugar and fat in its products, while TV junk food commercials--especially those aimed at children--would also be reduced. U.S. officials objected, saying there is no firm proof that sugar and processed foods are the main cause of obesity, and diet was a matter of individual responsibility.
It is reprehensible that the US government could capitulate to the influence of the sugar industry and oppose the WHO recommendation to reduce the amount of sugar people eat. Nevertheless, has been my experience that most people who are obese are not happy about it and would like to return to a healthy weight. Also, it is imperative to cut down on sugar and grains, which are converted to sugar in the body, if you want to lose weight and be healthy--this is true whether government regulations require it of the food industry or not.
Of course this is much easier said than done for some people, and there are certainly other important factors in treating obesity, such as regular exercise and resolving emotional challenges, but what I want to propose to anyone and everyone who is trying to reach their ideal weight is a system that will allow you to eat what you want and still lose weight, and, even better, achieve real health benefits.
This system is nutritional typing, and regular newsletter readers have likely heard of it before. The premise is that when you eat the foods that are right for your nutritional type, you will feel satisfied and your cravings for sugar and other unhealthy foods will disappear.
