People from all over the country have come to The Optimal Wellness Center to learn about how to improve their health. One of the tools that I use, and cannot speak highly enough about, is nutritional typing.
Many people come to my office eating very high-quality nutritious foods and are still quite sick. They haven't touched sugar or junk food in ages and still suffer with many health problems. There are a number of reasons for this, but one of the major physical ones is related to the fact that they are not eating appropriate foods for their nutritional type.
Knowing your individual nutritional type allows you to learn and understand what types and amounts of macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) fit your own body's metabolism and help you to prevent disease.
However, if you cannot make it to The Optimal Wellness Center, I suggest you check out my new book, Total Health Program, where you can get the full details on this essential principle and learn how to assess your nutritional type.
Below, Harrel Hill tells how the program has made a lasting impact on his life.

I decided to visit Dr. Mercola in Chicago after I had learned about his nutritional typing technique. See, I am a diabetic and until recently, three months ago, I was at the point in my life where I can truly say that I was on my deathbed. I had absolutely no energy to get myself out of bed in the morning to get to work, and on the days I had off, I stayed in bed. I was overweight and on 16 medications for diabetes and high blood pressure. The state of health that I was in was causing me to lose my job and my life.
In November 2003, I walked into Dr. Mercola's Optimal Wellness Center. I first learned about Dr. Mercola on a television show called "Your Health with Doug Kauffman." On the television show, Doug Kauffman would show Dr. Mercola's Web site several times, along with referring to him constantly. It really caught my attention. Dr. Mercola has been a previous guest on the show, however I never caught those segments. It was enough just to learn of his Web site and what he believed in to prompt me to get myself help.
When I first saw Dr. Mercola I was in very bad shape, as I mentioned above. Dr. Mercola educated me about his diet program, which includes no grains, and nutritional typing. After seeing him and learning what nutritional type I was, he immediately told me to take two months off my job so I could get on the right course of knowing what foods I should and shouldn't be eating for my nutritional type.
I started to follow the nutritional typing food recommendations for the mixed type and realized it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I created a meal plan to follow and used it for my nutritional type. I eliminated grains and sugars and added a lot of green vegetables to my diet, such as spinach and turnip greens. I also eliminated 98 percent of all breads and most potatoes.
What helped me the most in the beginning was EFT. By far, EFT has been one of the most helpful tools for me. The method did appear strange to me at first but by using the technique it helped me overcome my food cravings and helped me focus on my job. EFT gave me the self-determination to feel better and conquer my health problems. I set goals for myself and visualized every one of them and set out to accomplish them. I also prayed a lot.
It took me about three weeks till I noticed a difference in myself, and within two months of being on Dr. Mercola's program I lost 11 pounds and through nutritional typing I lowered my blood sugar. And the best news is, I am only on six medications, as opposed to 16, and I am working with Dr. Mercola to eliminate the rest of them.
Since I am back at work now, I found that it was rather time consuming for me to make myself lunch everyday. Dr. Mercola recommended that I try Living Fuel Rx and it is working out great. It is actually one of my favorite foods.
By following Dr. Mercola's plan, I have more energy than I have ever had before. When I first saw him I wasn't exercising and now I enjoy walking two to three miles a day, three to five times a week. I feel so much better about myself. I can finally say that I am on my way to becoming independently healthy.
