Jamba Juice recently had a product launch to introduce their new low-calorie smoothies, which they call "enlighten smoothies."

Unfortunately, they made the mistake of including Splenda. It is interesting to note that Whole Foods will not allow Jamba to sell these smoothies due to the use of Splenda.

Maybe Whole Foods has a clue.

The promoters of Jambajuice really did their best at trying to make this drink sound healthy. The truth is that Splenda is probably one of the worse ingredients you can consume.

Splenda is far from healthy and I do not recommend using it in any form. Why not use Splenda? Well, research in animals has shown that sucralose, the chemical name for Splenda, can cause many problems such as:

  • Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40 percent shrinkage)
  • Enlarged liver and kidneys
  • Atrophy of lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus
  • Increased cecal weight
  • Reduced growth rate
  • Decreased red blood cell count
  • Hyperplasia of the pelvis
  • Extension of the pregnancy period
  • Aborted pregnancy
  • Decreased fetal body weights and placental weights
  • Diarrhea

I also encourage you to take a look at the links below to get a thorough understanding of the dangers Splenda poses to your health.
