technology provider Qualcomm Inc. introduced a new line of ultra-high
resolution cameras. The company said it was making strides into advanced
new markets. Qualcomm released its first of "7000" series,
all-in-one chips, that offered the benefits of 6-megapixel cameras
and full-motion camcorder recording.
The 6-million pixel images produced by Qualcomm chips would make
camera phones manufactured with this technology strong competitors
with the technologically advanced digital cameras that are available
in consumer markets worldwide. Qualcomm, provider of the basic technology
used in many of the mobile phones sold in both U.S. and important
Asian markets, claimed it was surpassing handset makers in so-called
sideband-CDMA markets such as Europe, Japan and China to name a
few.
Wideband-CDMA, which has become increasingly popular in Europe
and Japan, is referred to as the standard option for third-generation
wireless networks. Some of its transmittal to mobile phones features
include voice calls, video attachments and hefty e-mail attachments.
Added W-CDMA Handset Makers
- Taiwan’s BenQ Corp.
- Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Corp.
- Vitelcom Mobile of Malaga, Spain
The company also expressed confidence over gaining new business
in Japan after NTT DoCoMo, one of Japan’s biggest mobile service
providers, took over the global W-CDMA, in the middle of the year
2005.
Qualcomm has also signed up Yahoo Inc.’s Yahoo Mobile unit
to use Qualcomm’s BREW software to design wireless services,
including a BREW-version of Yahoo’s widely known Yahoo Messenger
instant messaging communications program.
