While Monsanto remains hushed about the future of the engineered cow hormone Posilac, their decision to reduce sales of the hormone by 50 percent spoke volumes.
This reduction, which took place in January 2004, preceded a prior reduction of 15 percent in December 2003.
Further trouble signs for Posilac could be seen in the termination of many Posilac salespeople and the demise of the "Milk is Milk" Web site, which was implemented as a way to attack those who opposed food biotechnology.
Monsanto's attempt to recover sales for Posiliac were evident in their plans to build and employ workers at a U.S. Posilac production plant in Augusta, Georgia, which hasn't yet shown any signs of production.
Production of Posilac was the first major biotech food product that was issued approval by the FDA, a decision that is still considered the most controversial in the history of the FDA.

Good news!! It appears highly likely that Monsanto will be phasing out its bovine growth hormone (BGH). Fifteen percent of America's 10 million lactating dairy cows at one time were being injected with BGH and total annual sales was about $3 billion.
The FDA's review of human and animal safety for introduction of BGH was criminally flawed.
Monsanto's worst nightmare has materialized a mass-based consumer and environmental marketplace pressure campaign in the heartland of GE foods--North America. I am happy to have played a small part in the transition back toward sanity.
I do not recommend drinking pasteurized milk, however, even if it doesn't contain hormones. This is because pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12, and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.
Raw milk is a completely different food than commercial milk. Just as raw eggs are far superior to cooked eggs, raw milk is superior to pasteurized milk, which has lost much of its healing potential.
If you are concerned about hormone additives in your milk and are looking for a clean source of milk, keep checking our Web site over the next few weeks, as we will soon be offering raw milk in our Web store.
