Health experts are searching for answers concerning the growing number of obese children. With approximately nine million children under the age of six suffering from obesity, help is being sought from parents, schools, advertisers, the government and the food industry to help alleviate this epidemic.
The Institute of Medicine suggests that the society children live in make it difficult to exercise and eat right. Some recommendations for schools to aid in preventing child obesity include:
Additional Ways to Decrease Child Obesity:
Over the past 30 years the percent of obese children and those at risk of becoming too heavy, has dramatically increased. According to health experts, actions must be taken immediately. If a plan of action is not implemented, researchers believe the rate of overweight and unhealthy children will continue to climb.

Well, it is certainly a positive sign that so many people are becoming involved with finding creative solutions to the growing number of obese children.
Prevention of childhood obesity is far easier than applying treatment options and much of the success of prevention depends on parental involvement. Providing children with nutritious meals and snacks, in addition to setting guidelines and educating them on good nutrition will put them on the road to making healthy decisions as adults.
Dr. Ben Lerner and I will be writing a book later this year about this problem and hope to offer some very specific practical guidelines that should have a major impact on this epidemic.
Because we live in a society where we have become so accustomed to seeing overweight children, many parents don't recognize their own childs obesity. However, many health problems are linked to obesity such as diabetes.
Parents serve as role models to their children. Showing them how to make proper nutritional choices will not only severely decrease their chances of becoming obese, but are also likely to prevent them from a lifetime of chronic illnesses.
So with this said, rather than giving in to the convenience of feeding your child junk food, introduce them to a much healthier alternative -- Cocochia, The Ultimate Snack Fuel. This tasty after school or after dinner snack is a mix of coconut and chia seeds. The organic seeds have a low glycemic index and contain important vitamins and antioxidants.
Exercising and eating right should be a natural occurrence in your childs daily life. If you are looking for a nutritional guide to achieving total heath and wellness for your family, you should consider my book Total Health Program. You can also learn how to incorporate a personalized exercise program for each member of your family by reading Paul Chek's newest book, How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy!, which is a perfect complement to my nutritional plan.
