Gregg and Evan Spiridellis, masterminds behind JibJab.com and the
popular Webtoon, "This Land," released a second biting
political satire, "Good To Be In D.C.," earlier this month
to wide acclaim. Traffic was huge, particularly after the Spiridellis
brothers appeared on the "Today" show, to the tune of
7 million views the opening weekend, and a combined 60 million for
both animated shorts.
Where did the Spridellis brother get the idea to launch a Web-based
entertainment site? From exposure to Web animation work by the multi-talented
John Kricfalusi, creator of the now legendary "Ren and Stimpy"
cartoon series in the late 90s.
Also, the wide-open atmosphere of the Web in general automatically
removes most of the barriers of entry to creative people wanting
to break into the system, particularly in terms of dealing with
bureaucratic "gatekeepers," Gregg says, who may have little
idea about what's truly entertaining.
