Splenda in Short Supply

With the raging demands and inadequate supply of the no-calorie sweetener Splenda, many dieters and companies who depend on the product may find they are out of luck come next year. This is because sucralose, the core ingredient behind Splenda, is in limited supply. In fact, the sole manufacturer of sucralose claims "interest has so outpaced expectations" that they will not be taking on any new United States consumers until production has doubled, which will take place sometime in early 2006.

It has been predicted that small companies aspiring to expand or introduce low-cal products to customers are those who will take the hardest hit from this Splenda shortage. As far as the large companies who already sell sucralose-based products, like Coca-Cola's low-calorie "C2" cola, it has not been determined what type of effect the lack of supply will present.

Splenda currently dominates the retail market for sugar substitutes, due to its sugar-like sweetness and baking stability. In fact, sucralose is used in an estimated 10,000 additional products, including:

  • Soda
  • Ice cream
  • Candy
  • Jams

In light of this shortage, some companies will find it relatively easy to switch over to other sweeteners; however, those companies who insist on using sucralose may have to delay the production of new products until the shortage has been replenished. Therefore, it is hard to establish how many new sucralose-sweetened products will hit the market in the near future. It all depends on how many products have been produced prior to this shortage, as well as how much sucralose companies have bought in advance.

Amazing, absolutely amazing. It seems like the world just can't get enough of Splenda, no matter how harmful it may be to their health. And the worst part of all: Most people, including many natural health clinicians, are oblivious to how dangerous it truly can be.

Splenda follows many of the same patterns as the artificial sweetener Nutrasweet. (If you still are on the fence about Nutrasweet (aspartame) you simply must read my review of the best video on the market on this subject. In a short 90 minutes it will open your eyes to the dangers of this perilous neurotoxin that should NOT BE CONSUMED BY ANYONE.)

Folks, if you are using Splenda (the brand name for sucralose) because you think it is a safe alternative to sugar or other artificial sweeteners like Nutrasweet, then you may be in for a big surprise. Research in animals has shown that consuming sucralose comes hand-in-hand with a plethora of health problems.

Not-So-Sweet Splenda-Related Side Effects

  • Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40 percent shrinkage)
  • Enlarged liver and kidneys
  • Atrophy of lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus
  • Reduced growth rate
  • Decreased red blood cell count
  • Aborted pregnancy
  • Diarrhea

If this list is not convincing enough for you, I highly recommending reading some of my other concerns regarding this potentially toxic no-calorie sweetener.

Moreover, the most revealing and powerful way to learn the treacherous truth about Splenda is to read someone's personal experience with it. Nearly every month we receive a report from someone who has had an adverse reaction to Splenda, and after reading just a few of the submitted testimonials you will won't even want to LOOK at Splenda again.

However, if you find yourself struggling to resist the deluge of cookies, candies and sweets this holiday season (and always), I have a perfect solution for you! Instead of giving in to temptation, satisfy your sweet tooth NATURALLY with stevia -- a healthy alternative to sugar.

Unlike aspartame and other artificial sweeteners that have been cited for dangerous toxicities, stevia is a natural alternative that's ideal for diabetics, those watching their weight and anyone interested in maintaining their health by avoiding sugar. Stevia can be used in appetizers, beverages, soups, salads, vegetables, desserts -- virtually anything! It is, hands down, the best alternative to sugar you will ever taste.
