Yahoo Provides Another Cool Tool for the New Firefox Browser

Firefox Browser

The movement from Microsoft Internet Explorer to Mozilla's Firefox is growing by leaps and bounds. Yahoo released a beta version of its Web browser toolbar for Firefox users, offering:

  • Bookmarks
  • News feeds
  • Search and translation tools

The new Web browser toolbar also features the ability to search a site, Yahoo Mail notifications and alerts and buttons for access to the Internet Company's games, finance, news and sports sites. Moreover, Yahoo plans to add an anti-spyware tool to the Firefox toolbar very soon.

Firefox--Smart Alternative for Web Browsing

More than 23 million copies of Firefox have been downloaded since its November 2004 launch, which has had an obvious impact on IE. Depending on which Web site you read, IE's share of the browser market has fallen anywhere from 88 percent to 90 percent of the current market. Firefox sits at 5 percent and is growing. Additionally, using Firefox will greatly decrease your security risk, as it is well known that the Microsoft browser is very vulnerable to hacking attacks.

For those of you who are already enjoying better Web browsing with Firefox, take a look at this new toolbar http://toolbar.yahoo.com/firefox. Currently, the Yahoo toolbar is only available for PCs running Windows, but a Macintosh version will be coming soon.

Dr. Mercola Dr. Mercola's Comments:

In November 2004, Firefox, my Internet browser of choice, officially launched its version 1.0. This was much to the relief of many users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE), which is full of security flaws that made surfing the Net for information and doing business online a risky proposition at best.

For most people like you and me, Firefox is 98 percent compatible with the 1,700 most-trafficked Web sites. To avoid the needless pain and stress viruses can have on your PCs and you, I strongly recommend downloading Firefox and trying it out for yourself--after all, what are you waiting for?

One important tip: Firefox doesn’t completely solve the problem on the Microsoft platform because IE is so deeply embedded within Windows. For example, if you use Microsoft Office or an older version of Outlook (2002 or earlier), the browser will automatically launch when you receive an HTML e-mail message with a JPEG attachment. A safer plan if you use Outlook would be to prevent the program from automatically opening image files as you review e-mails and attachments.

Additional Key Benefits From Switching to Firefox:

  • Foxy Tunes: Lets you control just about any media player without leaving your browser.

  • Googlebar: Will automatically zap those nasty pop-ups and will allow you to search the web with Google with one click.

  • Sage: This one is really cool. Firefox will finally have an RSS feed aggregator--which provides news updates from a Web site in a simple form for your computer--so now you can finally use your browser to load my blog and my RSS feed. Once you download the browser there will be a little brown RSS square in the bottom title of the screen. All you need to do is click on it to subscribe to the RSS feed.

Thus, if you haven't downloaded the Firefox browser yet, and want to beat the crowd, I suggest you do so now--it's free at their Web site.
