Star Wars Spoof: Organic Rebels and the Dark Side of the Farm

Star Wars

Laughter is key to staying healthy and happy. And the adventures of the Organic Rebels fighting against the Dark Side of the Farm only support that appreciation.

Courtesy of the Organic Trade Association, the hilarious spoof, Store Wars, adopts the likeness of the all-time classic film, Star Wars. Yet, instead of the well-known and beloved original characters, Store Wars features both organic and non-organic versions, including:

  • Cuke Skywalker
  • Obi Wan Cannoli
  • Chewbroccoli
  • Darth Tader
  • Princess Lettuce

The parody begins with Obi Wan Cannoli explaining to Cuke Skywalker that organic birth is being slowly wiped out through the use of chemical pesticides, genetic engineering and irradiation. The rest of the clip is devoted to the characters' journey to cease this evil-doing.

Not All Fun and Games

However, this comedic endeavor is not all fun and games, rather it offers an option to "Learn the Ways of the Farm," where viewers can educate themselves on the impact both organic and non-organic foods have in regard to health, value, the planet and taste.

Most importantly, though the parody dances with humor, the underlying message of the clip packs a seriously powerful punch.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

This short film creatively highlights the negative impact non-organic (genetically modified and pesticide-laced) foods have on your health and the environment you live in. Fact is, eating organic food is a powerful way to ensure that your food has not been genetically modified and will optimize your health.

What does organic mean? By definition, food that is "certified organic" must be free from all genetically modified organisms, produced without artificial pesticides and fertilizers and derived from an animal reared without the routine use of antibiotics, growth promoters or other drugs.

When weighing organic food against conventionally grown food, a question many people frequently ask is whether or not organic food is really better. Let's break it down...

Organic vs. Non-Organic

For starters, organic farming differs from conventional farming in the methods used to grow crops:

  • Where conventional farmers apply chemical fertilizers to the soil to grow their crops, organic farmers feed and build soil with natural fertilizer, which is far more environmentally friendly and less likely to cause any long-term complications.

  • Conventional farmers use insecticides to get rid of insects and disease, while organic farmers use natural methods such as insect predators and barriers for this purpose.

  • Conventional farmers control weed growth by applying synthetic herbicides, but organic farmers use crop rotation, tillage, hand weeding, cover crops and mulches to control weeds. While herbicides are not nearly as dangerous as insecticides, they still are synthetic chemicals introduced into the environment and clearly are not something that will improve your health.

Therefore, buy and eat, as much as possible, organic produce and free-range, organic foods. You're health will thank you for it.
