In July 2005 the American Dental Association and Centers for Disease Control will be sponsoring the National Fluoridation Symposium in Chicago to mark the 60th anniversary of fluoridation.
However, "celebrators" may want to hold off on their streamers and balloons, for according to a number of concerned health organizations, the main objective of the symposium should be of great concern to the public: Promoting mandatory universal fluoridation throughout the country.
Beware the Dangers of Fluoridation!
Numerous myths surround the consumption of fluoride: Impure and untested, fluoride chemicals are legislated into most U.S. water supplies to medicate tap water drinkers who are told water fluoridation is a safe and effective way to prevent tooth decay ... this is simply untrue.
Other fluoride health myths claim swallowing fluoride creates decay-resistant teeth by becoming part of a child's developing enamel and that fluoride is a necessary nutrient to prevent tooth decay, which is also incorrect. However, one of the most disturbing fluoride myths of all is the dentist recommendation that consuming 1 milligram of fluoride a day reduces tooth decay without fluoride's adverse effects such as dental fluorosis -- white spotted, yellow or brown stained and sometimes pitted and crumbly teeth.
Welcome to Reality
The truth is, studies have shown children who consume fluoride tablets are actually at an increased risk for dental fluorosis. In fact, in addition to tooth trauma, research has indicated swallowing fluoride is virtually useless and has needlessly exposed millions of innocent Americans to the harmful adverse side effects of fluoride, including:
- Lowered IQ
- Bone fractures
- Thyroid dysfunction
What's even more troubling is that the chemical used to fluoridate drinking water is an industrial waste product that, in conjunction with fluoride, contains lead, arsenic and other contaminants.
