Engadget, the number one read blog in the world, featured a detailed parody of themselves: an extensive mockup of their site as if it had been written in 1985.
The piece looked at the technologies that were fresh on the market then, including gigantic "mobile" phones, digital cameras that saved to floppy disks, and even a new operating system called Windows 1.0 that "actually lets you run more than one DOS application at a time"!
The article includes "predictions" for a future we now inhabit, and sly comparisons to current technology, including "tapecasts" available on a cassette tape.
If you were into computers at that time like I was then, you will really appreciate this piece, as it will bring back fond memories. Even if you weren't, you'll still enjoy the amazing pictures of massive portable phones weighing 10 pounds or more.
It's fascinating to see how far we've come in such a short time – and wonder how far we still have yet to go!
