A little while ago, I shared a hilarious video with you promoting one of the many awesome and free features Google provides. An interesting and thought-provoking video I watched today -- EPIC 2014 -- paints a more malevolent picture of Google's future.

The Internet giant becomes so huge and powerful that, for all intents and purposes, it eliminates the human element in the free press.

To better understand the gist of this awesome video, imagine that, rather than news stories being written by people, computers search, data mine, and fact-strip to present you with news designed specifically to your tastes and interests ... with no other options.

Interestingly, says one of the filmmakers, reactions were mixed about their video. People who don't make a living reporting on or writing about the news of the day believe that view of the information-gathering a decade from now is a positive one.

Journalists, on the other hand, felt the video foreshadowed a dark, "Big Brother" kind of future for dispensing information.

The view of the creators, who made the video last year when they worked at the Poynter Institute, mirrors my own in that their amazing work was intended to be thought-provoking. I don't agree, however, with its dire prediction of how Google will deteriorate the development of news content.
