As many as four out of every 10 medical malpractice lawsuits filed in the United States are groundless, according to a Harvard analysis. In many cases, there was no evidence of a medical error, or any sign that the patient suffered an injury.
While the majority of such cases are dismissed, groundless lawsuits still account for 15 percent of the money given out in verdicts or settlements.
