Don't Expect the Government to Regulate Obesity

European and U.S. health officials have rejected placing new regulations on the food industry to combat obesity. Instead, they launched an "obesity platform," which calls on the industry to regulate itself.
Three Hundred Million
Three hundred million adults worldwide are obese or overweight. There are also more than 3 million overweight children, a number that is growing by 400,000 each year.
One Cause of Many
In related news, a recent study pinpointed a nonobvious cause of childhood obesity -- bullying. University of Florida researchers monitored the health of 100 overweight or at-risk children, and found that bullying caused many of them to avoid exercise. Bullying also brought on the signs of depression, such as sadness, fatigue and lack of interest.
