Urologist Herbert Sperling has warned that heated car seats, which are increasingly popular among those who live in cold climates, may cause male infertility.
They could be an even greater problem than tight trousers, another common cause of fertility problems in men. Reduced sperm growth, slow sperm and misshapen sperm were all more common among drivers who spend long periods on the heated seats. The seats raise the temperature of the testicles to 38 degrees Celsius, which is 3 degrees more than normal. Sperm is extremely sensitive to changes in temperature.
One needs to be concerned about any long-term close exposure to electromagnetic radiation. When you are sitting on these coils they will clearly expose you to some potentially harmful EMFs.
I live in Chicago and can get mighty cold in the winter and I refuse to purchase a car that does not have a seat heater. I also love heated steering wheels as it allows me to drive without having to wear gloves.
However, I can assure as soon as the car heater kicks on in about five minutes, I turn the seat heater off and I would encourage you to do the same.
Another option that you do is obtain a remote car starter that will start your car for you while you are inside and allow it to warm up for five minutes before you climb inside.
Getting back to this study though, the observed fertility effects could actually be due to the heat that is caused by the coils. Interestingly, male infertility was also a problem for the Roman Empire, when long soaks in heated baths were a daily routine.
In fact, methods of raising the temperature of the testicles have occasionally been proposed as a natural birth control method, although practical problems with technique have kept any of them from becoming widespread.
However, there are several other factors which can also decrease male fertility, including:
If you are experiencing fertility problems, improving your diet is an excellent first step toward remedying the problem, as without the proper nutrients, all of the body systems, including the reproductive system, will not work optimally.
Eating organically is also very important. Pesticides are exceptionally powerful hormone mimics that can have devastating consequences on our delicate reproductive processes. And it is possible to eat organic without bankrupting yourself.
Exercising and watching your stress levels are also very important. In general, I would recommend following the guidelines laid out in the comprehensive nutritional guidelines I have posted on the site for free.
Not only will it very likely help you with any problems you may have in this area, it will also help you look and feel terrific.
