The Advanced Medical Optics company has recalled nearly 3 million units of Complete MoisturePLUS contact lens solution, in the second major recall of a contact-lens solution this year.
Complete MoisturePLUS reportedly had sterility problems that could lead to eye infections. Solution made in China and sold in Japan were found to be contaminated with ralstonia bacteria.
Most of the recalled units were shipped to Japan and other parts of Asia, but Advanced Medical Optics also recalled 183,000 units that had been shipped to the United States. The company has also halted all manufacturing at the China factory so that it can be cleaned.
The recall comes six months after Bausch & Lomb's ReNu with MoistureLoc was linked to fungus-caused inflammation of the cornea.
Complaints regarding Complete MoisturePLUS included eye redness, irritation and blurred vision.
