The Advanced Medical Optics company has recalled nearly 3 million units of Complete MoisturePLUS contact lens solution, in the second major recall of a contact-lens solution this year.
Complete MoisturePLUS reportedly had sterility problems that could lead to eye infections. Solution made in China and sold in Japan were found to be contaminated with ralstonia bacteria.
Most of the recalled units were shipped to Japan and other parts of Asia, but Advanced Medical Optics also recalled 183,000 units that had been shipped to the United States. The company has also halted all manufacturing at the China factory so that it can be cleaned.
The recall comes six months after Bausch & Lomb's ReNu with MoistureLoc was linked to fungus-caused inflammation of the cornea.
Complaints regarding Complete MoisturePLUS included eye redness, irritation and blurred vision.
Here's a potentially nasty case of "deja vu all over again," coming on the heels of last spring's debacle involving Bausch & Lomb.
If reading news like this makes you want to pitch your contacts and solutions out the window, I don't blame you. Just don't be tempted to make matters potentially worse by making a permanent change to your vision with LASIK surgery. Besides, LASIK is no cure for your vision problems.
One safer, healthier solution that's cheaper than replacing multiple pairs of glasses and contact lenses over a lifetime: The Secrets of Regaining Your Vision Naturally training program I've used to correct and improve my own eyesight. It will teach you the natural vision program of pioneering medical doctor and ophthalmologist Dr. William Bates.
Dr. Bates was a maverick physician far ahead of his time. He dedicated his life to learning why people develop problems with their eyesight ... problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism.
As a result of his research, he developed a simple yet powerful combination of vision retraining methods that will allow you to see better naturally.
On Vital Votes, Dr. Terry Thomas from New Brunswick, Canada notes:
"Hey, that's my brand this time. I don't wear contacts often, but thanks for the heads up. Wonder what the odds are mine is infected? My ophthalmologist says I have the clearest eyes she's ever seen, and I tell her it's all the fish and fish oil I consume."
