More Dairies Eliminating Monsanto's Dangerous Hormones

MilkSafeway's processing plants in both Portland and Seattle are now free of milk tainted with rBGH (bovine growth hormone).

Safeway is requiring that dairy farmers supplying them milk must sign affidavits stating that they do not use rBGH.

The two plants produce milk for all of Oregon, Southwest Washington, and parts of northern California.

Safeway packages two brands of milk,
Lucerne and Dari-Glen. Only Lucerne will be labeled rBGH-free, despite the fact that the milk is largely identical.

Safeway's processing plant in
San Leandro, CA became rBGH-free two years ago; until now, it was Safeway's only rBGH-free plant. Safeway is the 23rd largest dairy processor in the country, with 17 plants in the United States and three in Canada.

In a related development, Chipotle Mexican Grill has announced that it will serve only rBGH-free sour cream at its more than 530 restaurants.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

Fortunately, the stream of food marketers removing Monsanto's rBGH hormone from their dairy products is steadily growing. If you aren't aware of why this is such an important move you will want to review an earlier article about the dangers of rBGH.

However, while these changes may sound like good ones for your health, they're nothing more than marketing ploys merely aimed at separating one set of product lines from others and more dollars from your pocketbook.

No matter how many chemicals dairy producers remove and no matter how popular the "organic" brand, conventionally produced pasteurized milk is no good for your health. Not only does pasteurization destroy much of the iodine and vitamin C present in raw milk, the process renders the major part of the calcium useless.

As always, the best solution for your health is to find a raw milk source in your area.

On Vital Votes, Bryan from Austin, Texas looks at the positive side of this development:

"This is a positive development, even though it doesn't go as far as we would like. It's a sign that more people are concerned about health issues with food -- which is good.

"Our challenge is to spread the word about real health benefits from eating a good diet and I think Dr. Mercola's web site is a big help in this regard.

"I also agree with Dr. Mercola that raw dairy from pastured animals is best for health. If more of us will 'vote' for raw dairy by purchasing it, we can change the world!"
