New Diet Pill Expands 1,000 Times in Your Stomach

Researchers in Italy have invented a new form of diet pill. The pill is composed of an extremely absorbent powder that expands to more than 1,000 times its original size when water is added. As a result, once eaten, it swells inside your stomach.

The pill, washed down with two glasses of water, creates a tennis ball-sized lump in the stomach, making dieters feel full. It was tested on 20 people last year, and is currently being tested on an additional 90 people.

The results of the latest round of tests are not due until October, but the pill has already won financing, and could be sold as soon as next May.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

The substance used to create this new pill was discovered while the researchers were designing a new lining for diapers. Supposedly, the sensation of being full caused by the pill can ward off appetite for the better part of a day.

It would be wonderful if there were a "quick-fix" solution to obesity. It will take far more to normalize your weight than making you feel full  Unfortunately, there isn’t one. And when you use the wrong tool as a "cure" any medical condition -- especially when it's a lifestyle-related medical concern like obesity -- you're also virtually guaranteed to experience further health problems. For example, gastric bypass surgery, a favorite obesity solution for some doctors, is fraught with possible complications including:

  • Bone loss
  • Liver failure
  • Immune system damage

While this pill certainly sounds less extreme than gastric bypass surgery, it still has the same basic flaw. It does nothing to address the underlying problems that lead you to become obese in the first place, which is normalizing your insulin levels through the proper selection of foods and exercise.

If you really want to normalize your weight, try:

  • Reducing, with the plan of eliminating, grains and sugars from your daily diet.
  • Treating the emotional issues that brought your health to this low spot by learning a valuable, effective and non-invasive tool like the Emotional Freedom Technique.
  • Starting an exercise plan today!
  • Nutritional Typing is also a MAJOR factor in understanding which foods are right for you. My new book, Take Control of Your Health, is the best book out there on helping you understand this important area of nutrition and can be an important tool to help you reach your goal weight and achieve high level wellness.

Hopefully all of you reading this will choose to fill your stomachs and satisfy your appetites with healthy food, and leave the absorbent powder for the diapers.

Simply a shame they didn't develop a pill to increase their logical brain function to the same factor...then they just might have figured out that a healthy diet and exercise would be good!

It will not be a good idea, we do need nutrition; why not just put tennis balls in our stomach?

Ah, I see the thing, it's not the pill that does the filling it's the two glasses of water.

To lose weight drinking a glass of water before meals might help to hold down the appetite, but for real weight loss nothing beats adjusted eating habits, smaller portions, better healthier foods, and exercise!  The longer your diets take the better too, it's good to use that time to fix those bad eating habits.

It shouldn't be a diet, but a way of life.

TOO FUNNY...
Is this for real? Do you take it before you get to the Drive Thru or while you're waiting in line?
Only in America!

Oh man you gotta laugh !!!!!! What would they think of next huh !!!!
We keep running around in circles.

Why don't they just take a can a foam spray you know the one the carpenter's use to fill cracks around the windows. Yes just pop a can in and you'll be full to the hilt, satisfied, not sure, but gauranteed you'd be full...

I wonder what would happen to someone who "accidentally" overdose on this monkey crap???

Like the running character count (since there's a limit, formerly with sudden post-entry cut-off); miss the spellcheck, however.

As long as this entry format can be altered & updated so easily, how about adding a basic toolbar with buttons for bold, italic, underline, text color & size, for examples.  Sub- and super-script would be nice too.  And bring back spell-check., please.

When the sponge cake diet doesn't work out, it's only logical that ingesting sponges would be next.

This is brilliant. There are millions of lazy brainless people out there who would jump on this in a second. And we are the most intelligent species on the planet? Does anyone else read stuff like this and feel like you are in a real life Far Side cartoon?
Is it really that difficult to just eat real healthy food and stay active?
Katybr55, as far as the tennis balls in the stomach, If you decide to go public with this let me know. I want to buy stock in Wilson sporting goods beforehand.

When I read this I started laughing!  This is so funny!  Come on!  This idea is sooooooo stupid!

It does NOTHING to address the REAL cause of hunger and obesity.

It gave me a good laugh though.  : )  I'm still laughing! LOL!!!

This is so funny I am having a hard time composing a serious reply. Picture the gullible investor who ingested this (experimental) product and still hours later was unable to eat more than half an ice cream.

Perhaps it might have been wiser to wait for the studies to be completed. And cellulose is just fiber, hey. So couldn't we just eat more fiber via fruits and veggies? Professor Ambrosio (Love that name!) doesn't say anything about vitamins and minerals. Sounds like another nutri-zapper, like WOW potato chips. Think I'll stick with my bananas and goat yoghurt. I could stand to lose a few pounds but I'm healthy and very fit, thank you. We could call this, Diets for the Lazy and Uninformed.
