How to Find What You Love to Do

In 2005, I posted an inspirational commencement speech by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, that advised the new graduates to do what they love to do, because life is too short to do anything else.

Along those lines, the motivating article linked below can help you to find out what it is that you love to do, with concrete, step-by-step instructions.

It involves not only figuring out what you love to do, but also what you enjoy that fits in with your skills and provides value to people (so you can actually make money doing it.)

Another key?

Writing your intentions down. Writing down your goals, as opposed to just thinking them, can make them 80 percent more likely to come true.

A large portion of your time here on this planet will be spent working, so it really is worth taking the time to make your dreams a reality. Making a living doing something you enjoy is a key component of a happy, peaceful, productive life.

I felt like a failure at 40 years old when I still did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up. (my father had always made it very clear that I was to 'be someone')  In the meantime, my husband started a home business and when he decided to open a store, I quit my job to work with him.
It turns out that it doesn't matter so much what my actual job is, it's working for myself that I really love.
Funnily enough, sometime last year, an old forgotten childhood memory came flooding back to me - I had always sworn I was going to live in the forest and have a mom and pop store. And here I am!

I wish I could figure out what to do.  My friends find my life interesting because I have had 3-4 different careers, but I really don't know what I would completely enjoy.  I figure when I retire in 10-12 years I may figure it out.

When I was growing-up, our country had little interference with the outside world, bad and good.  Because of this, we the children had to concentrate on our likes and dislikes.  We experiemented with the now and future, and found pretty much what we wanted.   For the most part, we began our futures at home and began our training before we began school, during the years of school and  were able to decide at very young ages where we needed and wanted to go and be.

I made my career choice at the age of 9, and continued to pursue, plus was able to add in other facets to my life because I was and still am, very organized.

I also knew I would be struggling financially for the rest of my life.

But I have always loved my work then and now.   I gave up, at an early age, the want for materialistic things.  It was worth it then and still is worth it today.

My love for contentment meant more to me then money.  Today I still feel the same way.  But I am surviving and smiling all at the same time.

I hope you have received my underline message .

Got it!  Feeding greed leads to other soul binding imprisonments.  You are free because you chose a better path.  Be blessed!

I am a huge fan of writing down goals.  I have been doing it for years.  I don't even make things a goal - they are part of my "wish" list.  I look at it often and add to it often.  I have had great success doing this and will continue!
If any of you have tried EFT you will know that this works great in assisting your wishes to come to fruition!!  A "wish" could be as simple as getting rid of a headached to getting a new car!!

EFT is an amazing energy balancer and helps to align your focus!!!

Jobs is a very interesting guy, with many honest and good points.

Where perception differs from reality however, in any of our pursuits, including Jobs' well documented failures, as well as successes, is EGO.

Just because Jobs offer a $6,000 per year to run I-Phone does not intrinsically make it good, bad, or indifferent.

So do not forget the sage Roman Chariot Victor reminder, whispered into the Champion's ear: "That all victory is fleeting".

My dream was to become a nurse and I fulfilled my desire however I was devastated when I became unable to work. It took me awhile to accept and then I went on with my life and I tried things that I thought I might like . One year I took up vegetable gardening and I love it . The next year I tried wine-making from the fruit that is homegrown, after that I tried goats for mowing weeds and brush in the pasture and eventually for healthy lean meat. Out of need for a milk source for my ill failure to thrive grandson , I tried raw goat milk and WOW ,I was hooked on raw goat milk from my beautiful deer like animals and now I am on to the vast ways of cheese-making . Life is good even tho some of my days are not but I never want to tire of learning and I never want to be bored with life and not have a plan or goal and without a desire to learn something new or at least try ... something.

I see so many people that  are so blaw and couch-potatoes with no interest's ,no desire and bored.  We aint dead ! Get going and make those desires come true, make those plans happen and become a reality and not just jotted down on paper on your "To Do" list . Forget the past and move on with new exciting things and  "Just TRY something new " , You will be amazed at the fun you will have !!

Here is Jobs' speech on YouTube:

I agree, it's very motivational.

@Russ
The cost of running an iPhone is similar to the competition, and you can even save money in some categories. The cost is never anywhere near $6000/year for one phone.
Here is a cost comparison:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/26/how-does-the-iphone-stack-up-in-total-cost/
I neither own an iPhone nor do I plan on buying one. I'm simply a proponent of information as opposed to misinformation.

I see too many people busting their tail to 'make a living' - and they're miserable. This has NOT been fun. But then again, who said it was supposed to be fun?

I think that it makes no sense to do what you love to make money! you should do what makes money then you can do what you love! there are plenty of ways to make millions and never work a day! trust me I know

Well, I could sure learn a thing or two from you!  But life is not like a game of Monopoly, where each player gets the same monetary benefits from the start of life's game.  Genetics, environment, and moral choices play a major role in life's game.  And you need money to make money.
