Heart Attack Triggers You Should Know

According to this somewhat light-hearted article, just getting out of bed in the morning may be the worst thing you can do if you‘re trying to avoid a heart attack.

There are a wide variety of events that can trigger an already susceptible heart to go into cardiac failure, including:
  • Dehydration
  • A bout of anger
  • Strenuous exercise
  • Infectious diseases, like pneumonia or the flu

Most heart attacks occur first thing in the morning upon waking, as your body releases stress hormones into your bloodstream to prepare your body to get moving. This rise may cause a cardiac event if your arteries are already sufficiently clogged with cholesterol-rich plaque.

Dr. Mercola''s Comments Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Many things could trigger a heart attack, but in order to prevent most cardiac events, you really need to start at the prevention stage, rather than trying to avoid everything that might trigger an attack.

A good place to start is to go through this checklist on How to Determine Your Cardiovascular Health, which includes both blood tests and simple do-at-home tests to help you determine if you’re at risk of developing heart disease. About 20 percent of heart attacks go undetected, so checking your susceptibility is a good idea.

How to Keep Your Heart Healthy

There are numerous ways for you to protect your heart naturally, at every stage of your life, so you lessen your risk of heart attack and heart disease. Here are the top recommendations.
  • Boost Your Good Cholesterol and Lower Your Triglyceride Levels: Many people strive to reduce their cholesterol levels to protect their heart, but high levels of good (HDL) cholesterol are believed to protect your heart from disease. Meanwhile, high triglycerides are an incredibly potent risk factor for heart disease. In combination, high triglycerides and low HDL levels are an even bigger risk; this ratio is even more important to your heart health than the standard good vs. bad cholesterol ratio.

In fact, one study found that people with the highest ratio of triglycerides to HDL had 16 times the risk of heart attack as those with the lowest ratio of triglycerides to HDL. So while you strive to keep your HDL cholesterol levels up, you’ll want to decrease your triglycerides. How? You can increase your HDL levels by exercising and getting plenty of omega-3 fats like those from krill oil. Triglycerides are easily decreased by exercising and avoiding grains and sugars in your diet.
  • Get Enough Omega-3 Fats: Omega-3 fats (found in fish oil and krill oil) are extremely beneficial for your heart. Taking a high-quality omega-3 supplement regularly is one of the easiest ways to help promote your heart health.
  • Get Your Iron Levels Checked: Iron is nature’s rusting agent. If you have excessive levels in your body you are at risk of major oxidation, or premature aging. Excess iron will also increase your risk of heart disease. If you are a man, or a woman in menopause, you should get your iron levels tested and, if they’re too high, take steps to reduce them.
  • Keep Your Insulin Levels in Check: Elevated insulin levels can lead to insulin resistance, a major risk factor for heart disease. To keep your insulin levels where they should be, get plenty of exercise and follow my nutrition plan, which will automatically limit your intake of foods that raise insulin levels.
Simple Lifestyle Changes for Your Heart

Along with the tips above, these three simple suggestions will vastly improve your heart health:
  • Exercise. It’s more effective than any drug for treating heart disease and should be your first line of defense against heart attacks.
  • Reduce your intake of grains, corn-based foods (and corn-syrup-sweetened beverages), potatoes and all sweets.
  • Keep your stress levels under control using an energy psychology tool like the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

I am shaking my head , no,  and rolling my eyes, and signing  ummmm, in lack of fear of fear.  All this is , is a super scare scam.  As usual, these profiteering mongalodes will not stop with their lies etc.

Have no fear my friends and always keep a positive outlook on everything, if possible.  When you go for your evenings rest, think sweet thoughts and place your heads down on your pillow with a smile on your face, and say sweetly,  tomarrow is a new day.

Remember, patient heal thou-self.

alaskadude,

According to the annapavlova42 dictionary, that I have just created recently,  mongalode means - -----

Money grabbing anal leaders of deceit.

I think you meant mongoloide as in a metally retarded person (Down's Syndrome)

annapavlova42,

Your definition of mongalode--MONey Grabbing Anal Leaders Of DEceit (nice acronym!)--sounds pretty close to what I refer to as white-collar sociopaths.

Ordinary sociopaths, like serial murderers, are retail killers. The white-collar variety are strictly wholesale, while maintaining the conceit of being decent human beings.

Drinking high levels of water can significantly reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Basically, not drinking enough water can be as harmful to your heart as smoking. Blood plasma viscosity, hematocrit, and fibrinogen which are concidered independent risk factors for coronary heart disease can be elevated by dehydration.

You want to drink a big glass of water as soon as you get out of bed each morning. Since the body is an electrical machine, you also want to make sure you have good drinking water with electrolytes mixed with it to help hydrate your body so your cells can communicate better.

Also, keeping yourself grounded to the earth can help reduce the onslaught of cortisol stress hormones.

I just read an article claiming heavily caffinated breakfast bars (HFCS laden) were the next big trend...so if getting out of bed doesn't finish you off, grab a Cardiac Arrest Bar with your Starbuck's, and/or Dunkin' Donuts - it's sure to do the trick!

Aint that the truth , the western diseases such as cardio vascular disease , diabetes and arthritis , not to mention obesity and high cholesterol are all attributed to the types of over processed foods available on the go , Fast foods lead to fast death!

It's rather more complex and involved than merely "fast food" consumption. I've been in a fast food establishment maybe 6 times in 74 years, yet I do have hypertension and type 2 diabetes. My father also had both and never ever entered a McDonalds because it did not exist in Germany 50 years ago.

Dorle - you don't have to go to a fast food den to have hypertension ot type 2 diabetes - just carry on eating hydrogenated fats(You will find them in biscuits, pastries, cakes, pies and anything else that the manufacturers put them in to extend shelf life- and of course, that healthy substitute for butter - magerine!!!) CHECK THE LABELS ALWAYS.

I have read that in 1900 there was no Type 2 diabetes, this starting to appear later on in the deacade. This could be caused by that fact that people were beginning to live longer, so that the Diasbetes and CHD began to appear, or is it a coincidence that hydrogenated oils were introduced in the first decade of the 20th. century, I wonder.

I enjoy a Mediterranean diet and was shocked to learn that I had Angina.

.

I was prescribed tablets and told to try them, this was not good enough for me, I asked the consultant what was the next step, he said an Angiogram was the blue chip test to definately confirm if there was a problem.

I requested the Angiogram and the diagnosis was confirmed.

The very next day I started a diet and in 9 days lost 1.5 stone;  thats 21 lbs in weight, and felt marvellous.

breakfast is a bowl of cold skimmed milk; not too much, quaker oats, dried cranberries, two dried apricots, walnuts with also sometimes additionally a whole chopped banana........with a cup of ordinary skimmed milk'd tea.

I eat smaller amounts of food, haven't had sugar or salt for 15 years; now use lime, lemon to taste in salads.

I eat lots of coloured sweet peppers, tomatoes; fruit and vegetables.

Each day; a glass of red wine and a teaspoon of Armagnac brandy; recently an article prescribed this particular brandy especially good for the heart.

Since late 2006 and upto two monts ago, I could only walk about 300 yards before having to stop with chest ache.

Now I am able to walk each day, without any problems one to one and a half miles in the morning before work, and......still taking my medication, but no Aspirin, this made me feel ill and caused problems.  I decided to stop taking Aspirin and subsituted it immediately with one 1,000mg of Cod liver oil capsule daily at breakfast.

Something has change inside me and I don't know what, I still have Angina as seen in the Angiogram, can now walk at weekends three and half miles in a day with no problems and now wonder what is going on.
