Mercury Contamination is Destroying Public Health and Spawning an Autism Epidemic

Mercury toxicity and autism are like “mirror images of each other,” according to Dr. Kurt Woeller, an osteopathic physician in Temecula, California who focuses his practice on children on the autistic spectrum.

Woeller believes that a series of childhood vaccines containing the mercury-based preservative thimerosal is to blame for the rising numbers of autism in the United States.

“My suspicion is that the mother had a toxic mercury load that has filtered to the child, and the mercury-containing vaccine was the straw that broke the camel‘s back," he says.

Thimerosal has been banned in many countries, including Denmark, Great Britain, and Austria, for two decades, but the United States only recently reduced or eliminated thimerosal in vaccines for children 6 and younger. Flu vaccines in the United States still contain thimerosal.

Further, rates of autism increased when the Center for Disease Control added additions to the recommended vaccination program for infants in 1988. In the 1980s, autism rates were estimated at six in 10,000 children. Today, autism rates are one in 150 children, though some say autism affects closer to one in 50 children in some areas.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has acknowledged that thimerosal can be a neurotoxin, and in 2004 stated that thimerosal-containing vaccines were associated with autism. Nearly 5,000 families have filed lawsuits claiming that childhood vaccinations caused their children‘s autism.

As of 2003, there were 1.5 million autistic U.S. children, and costs for their care is an estimated $90 billion per year.

Dr. Mercola''s Comments Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Autism rates have exploded in recent years, with U.S. states each reporting increases of at least 500 percent in the last decade. It is becoming increasingly difficult to deny the very real connection between exposure to mercury, a known neurotoxin, and this once-rare disease.

It seems that avoiding potent neurotoxins like mercury, especially in vaccines, can be highly protective against neurological diseases like autism. This is likely one of the primary reasons why the Amish have such low rates of autism, since the avoid vaccines.

In fact, when mice were exposed to the mercury preservative,  thimerosal in a study, they showed many behavioral and neuropathological features of autism disorders, including:
  • Larger brain sizes
  • Limited ranges of behaviors in addition to a decreased exploration of environments
  • Abnormal responses to unique environments
  • Deviations in brain architecture affecting areas that control emotions and thought
Childhood vaccines clearly seem to be one major culprit influencing the autism epidemic. In fact, 50 years ago when the vaccine schedule for infants contained just four vaccines, autism was a rarity.

Today, the Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Childhood Vaccination Schedule includes 11 vaccines, some of which are actually triple whammies (such as Measles, Mumps, and Rubella). Infants receive multiple doses of these powerful agents all before they turn 1 year old, and it’s just too much for some children to take.

On top of that, at least one of the vaccines recommended to children, the flu shot, still contains thimerosal!

Mercury is in the Environment, Too

Aside from childhood vaccinations, children are also exposed to mercury from air pollution (coal-burning plants release mercury into the environment at alarming rates) and contaminated groundwater.

Children can also be exposed to mercury while in the womb. If a pregnant woman has high levels of mercury in her system, from eating a lot of fish, for instance, the baby could be at risk. Studies have shown that the level of mercury in the umbilical cord blood of newborns is 1.7 times higher than the mercury level in their mother's blood.

Even just eating fish two or more times a week has been found to raise mercury levels seven times beyond those in women who had not eaten any fish for a month, according to the CDC.

What can you do?

If you are a new parent, or a parent-to-be, you are starting off on the right foot: you’re getting informed. The more you know about the potential risks of vaccinations, and of mercury contamination in the environment and other sources, the better able you will be to make wise decisions for the health of your child.

Looking for a few pointers right now? I’d recommend the following to any and all parents:
  • Do your homework about vaccinations, BEFORE vaccinating your child. Make an informed choice so you know ALL the pros and cons before you capitulate to the pressure and expose your child to a potentially dangerous intervention. Many vaccines now have mercury removed but there are a fair number out there that are still loaded with this dangerous metallic poison.
  • Women, if you are pregnant or planning to be, avoid eating fish unless you can verify, via lab testing, that it does not contain mercury. You can get all the benefits of fish, without the risks, by taking a high-quality, purified krill oil.
  • Calculate your child’s risk of mercury poisoning from vaccines using the calculator in this link.

Russ, you are so right.  Mercury is not just in the vaccinations, but in everything.  Your Bounce Sheets in the dryer, broken light bulbs, even the auxiliary switch in your vehicle (the box in the trunk of your car, that runs your interior lights).  Around here, they tell you not to eat the fish out of the river (because of the run off surrounding it, pesticides mostly), but they want you to come and swim there.  What is up with that?

Really Anna, I don't think this was done on purpose.  How many of us were fascinated by the mercury running across our palm from the broken thermometer?  We did not know that mercury was bad, back then.  My dad told me about a mercury based seed treatment (the crop seed was mixed in this before it was planted), he said there were No Warnings on the label.  We have to educate ourselves and those around us of the dangers of mercury.

I feel like I am living in the twilight zone. One day I went to the dentist. That changed my whole life. Only be OK if I can stop the dentist using silver fillings, made with 50%mercury. The other day I had my day in the governors office. That felt good. Now my new angle is asking big corporate company not pay for silver fillings. Medical insurance can pay for something else. Do you have other ideas. How this practce could be stopped?

I really care, From the twilight Zone, Kathy

And the AMA still wants us to vaccinate our children, is that so they can keep them on medications for their entire lives.

Mary---I think the AMA's only concern is to protect the income of their members reguardless. To do that, they have to insure that we continue to stay sick and the use of drugs is a good way to see to it. Take care of many members and companies at the same time, but the hades with the rest of us.

A great reason to clean house.

So when we go to the polls this time, let us not just clean one room, let's start by cleaning every room in the entire house. Vote against everyone holding office in DC and when they ask WHAT'S GOING ON we can remind them of this article and tell them we will keep cleaning house if they do not put a stop to this nonsense of devistation to our children. All those other countries must have had people cleaning house, or, some elected officals that actually cared. Let's let our vote do our talking NOW! And don't forget to tell all your friends to spread the TAKE ACTION VOTE!

When we vote to clean house, it would be best to vote independant.  As far as Ron Paul is concerned, he had to join the republican party, in order to move forward.  We need independants in congress , the senate and local.

Anna, yes, i think we need to do away with the 2 party system.  Last election, before i used the interned much i didn't even KNOW about the other candidates until about a week before the election because the media didn't cover them.

I'm going to have to register as a Republican for the first time in my life in order to vote for Ron Paul in the primary.  If i don't, i may not get to vote for him in the final.

I'd like to se the 2 party system done away with, but in order to make a difference NOW i have to be practical on the limitations currently.

I wish they had an article like this for my brother and I to take to school a few years ago when we were the only two in our year to refuse mandatory school vaccinations. We had a lot of trouble with nurses trying to convince us we'd basically die if we didn't have them, despite our reasoned arguments, telling them we'd both seen first hand the effects of autism-vaccine reactions, and demands to see the ingredient lists etc. They didn't jab us in the end because, well, we wouldn't let them! But something like this would have made it so much easier for us.

Well, I'm GLAD that I was vaccinated.  I wouldn't want to be crippled by polio. Or to have smallpox or measles.

Well done for standing your ground.

It's good to be informed.I only recently am finding all this out and when my doc wrote to me [again] apologizing for giving my son an out of date vaccine [I'd refused the MMR, but ended up giving in with the preschool jab....just lack of knowledge, unfortunately], I'd wrote back to her with a copy of lot's of info of the damage that vaccine's can do.....haven't heard back from her since.

I have heard, that some parents are struck off from doc's list or referred to social work, if they refuse to vaccinate their kids.

It's amazing how powerful those big pharma companies are.....and then the government get's paid big bugs by those big pharms company's and releases wrong information about the drugs they sell.....most of it we end up not finding out, until it's to late.

As for all those vaccines that are popping up now......well, I wasn't vaccinated for measels, mumps rubella etc....I just caught those from my older siblings and gained my immunity from that. But then ,just because you're not vaccinated for a particular illness, it doesn't mean, that one actually will get it and the same way goes, just because one is vaccinated it doesn't mean , that you won't get it.

I've heard of people, who'd been vaccinated, but then still got the illness.

A lot [if not all] illness comes from deep rooted feelings, that haven't been dealt with.

Why was this confirmation so long in coming, when the cause-effect evidence has been clear for some time? It's probably a liability issue. Can you predict the massive class-action lawsuits that will follow this confirmation? More to the point, will the pharmaceutical companies accept blame and remove mercury from vaccines? I think they will be forced to...but don't hold your breath!

I think this is another article to send to the local news stations and to the governor!  Our city is doing a huge push for school vaccinations right now and I think this would be a really good time to get more correct info out there!

I would like to read the rest of the article without having to subscribe to the publication.

Confirmation was so long in coming because they didn't WANT to know.  Class-action lawsuits are only part of it.  I think someone in government is afraid of an unvaccinated public, & so they don't want the public to know of the problems.  They never wanted to do a study on this so they could say,  "That is anedotal evidence only.  There are no studies to back this evidence."
