When Medicare was introduced by President Johnson in 1965, it was a classic example of the devastating complications that can result from well-intentioned government intervention in our health care system. Now, more than 40 years later, it has become clear that Medicare is a prescription for financial disaster.
The Medicare drug bill passed in 2003 was initially projected to cost $400 billion over a ten-year period. In a recent article I pointed out it was closer to $1.5 trillion, and here we have David Walker, the U.S. Comptroller General, stating it’s going to take some $8 TRILLION to pay for what’s promised!
I hope he succeeds in his “fiscal wake-up tour” around the country. “We suffer from a fiscal cancer,” he says. Indeed! And who benefits when there’s cancer? Whether the cancer is physical or figurative, pharmaceutical companies are the ones who come out on top, making obscene profits.
As of January 1, 2008, 78 million American “Baby Boomers” will become pensioners and medical dependents, unleashing a tsunami of spending for which America is not prepared.
Personally, I have never been involved with the Medicare system and have never filed a claim with them in over 20 years of practice. I don’t have any intentions on using the system, and fully believe in keeping my body healthy through leading a naturally healthy lifestyle.
This is also an option for you. My best prescription for beating these alarming numbers is to get healthy as soon as you can. There are a number of basic strategies you can take, and they’re easily remembered as the acronym of my name.
