When Comedians Understand Health Truth You Know We Are Making Progress

(Watch This Video: 4 minutes 10 seconds)

Here, Bill Maher ends his show with a hilarious, yet oh-so-true rant about Big Pharma, astutely observing, "If you believe you need all the pills and drugs the pharmaceutical industry says you do -- then you‘re already on drugs."

Dr. Mercola''s Comments Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Good comedy is usually about dissecting and pointing out the sheer lunacy of something that happens all the time. And, usually, you can’t use satire unless a vast majority knows exactly what you’re talking about, and can relate to the topic.

This is why I really love this video. Bill Maher whacks the ball out of the park with his commentary on the current state of “health” care in the United States and the propaganda machine that wants you to believe you need a pill in order to get out your door in the morning.

“There’s no money in healthy people,” he says, and that truth is at the heart of our American health crisis.

By making it more difficult, and confusing, for you to make healthy choices, the food industries and the pharmaceutical industries are feeding their own megalomania. In truth, optimizing your health is not rocket science. But if you believe the media, and the pharmaceutical propaganda in particular, it may seem impossible to get by without emptying your wallet to buy your required pills for all those newly invented ills.

Wake up – and take control of your own health. Be the master of your own life. Don’t buy into the hype!

Just remember these ten basic tenets of optimal health (and healthy weight) – which will never go out of style, regardless of what marvels modern science comes up with next:

    1. Have Emotional traumas addressed
    2. Get optimal Sunlight exposure
    3. Drink Pure Water
    4. Avoid Toxins
    5. Eat the right Fats
    6. Eat right for your Nutritional Type
    7. Eat Raw foods
    8. Control Insulin and Leptin
    9. Exercise
    10. Sleep properly

Remember, leading a common sense, healthy lifestyle is your best bet to produce a healthy body and mind, increase your longevity, and avoid adding to the pharmaceutical industry’s coffers.

Spot on!

A comedian cannot spoof something in popular culture unless people understand the basic concept he is satirizing.

The good news is this really resonates with the crowd.  They know something is very wrong with the current health of our fellow Americans.

I believe the point is to get their attention with laughter (entertain them) and then teach them something. I always say to be a good preacher, you have to be an entertainer in a way. If you are boring, no one will listen.

I loved the video and forwarded it to some friends and family, hopefully they will listen to what Bill Maher is trying to tell them.

I find I learn more on something if there's humor in it.  Jokes are easier to remember.

Bill Maher needs to get with Michael Moore to write the script for a follow-up to "Sicko." This is the crucial part that Michael left out.

I think there's a reason Michael Moore didn't add anything in Sicko about diet and exercise - he obviously doesn't know the benefits from it!  Michael Moore needs to eat healthy and exercise to really truly understand first-hand why pills and unnecessary medical procedures are ruining our health and making us broke.  I support universal health care, but it is not the only facet of a very complex solution.

On a side note, I highly recommend the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser.  It starts out somewhat slow, but then really gets into the greed that fuels corruption to influences our food choices.

Brilliant - should be compulsory viewing for every health care practitioner.

It will be interesting to see if Mr Maher suffers the same backlash that Tom Cruise experienced. Remember>? He told Matt Lauer that people can fight depression without the use of drugs.  Tom Cruise was branded as crazy and unstable. It was a big deal and he suffered personally and professionally for it. I saw the interview however and Cruise was completely lucid and his points were well founded.

Maybe since they were offered in humor Bill Mauer will escape the backlash....let's see. He basically said the same things Cruise said.

In this culture we are expected to "tolerate" all kinds of deviate behavior as "alternative lifestyle."  It is time the culture understand that tolerance needs to extend to all if it is be extended to any.
Why is it that I have the legal option to do what I want with my own body (and the body of an unborn infant) by having access to legal abortion even in late stage...yet...
I cannot legally obtain a glass of raw milk to put in my own body in my own state??
Purhaps we have all embraced the doctrine of tolerance to our own peril.

Hi Mercola Fan - I'm just sharing.......this website http://www.notmilk.com/

has tons of interesting information.....I don't want to burst any bubbles about "raw milk" but I think it's definitely worth a look if milk is in your diet.

Also Dr John McDougall gives some facts - you'll be glad you now know.
