Jack LaLanne -- A Man WAY Ahead of His Time!

(Watch this video: 3 minutes, 11 seconds)

(Watch this video: 3 minutes, 39 seconds)

Jack LaLanne, also known as “the godfather of fitness,” was enormously popular from the 1950s to the 1980s, when his TV program  “The Jack LaLanne Show” aired (the first-ever devoted to exercise).

The two videos below are just snippets of his teachings, but they are incredible! Jack LaLanne was clearly 50 years ahead of his time.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:
Today Jack LaLanne is in his 90s, but he looks like he’s about 50. Clearly he’s been following his own advice, and it’s been working to keep him trim and remarkably healthy.

I sure hope I will be as healthy as Jack when I reach his age.  Many people do not know that he was trained as a chiropractor (but never used the title), and that his daughter is a chiropractor.

When Jack LaLanne was a child, he reportedly was very violent, attacking his brother with an axe and even setting his parent’s house on fire. He then attended a lecture given by nutritionist Paul Bragg, and was inspired to change his diet and lifestyle. LaLanne has said that his former high-sugar diet was what caused him to be violent as a child.

In the first video above, I was surprised how LaLanne really suggests a protein type meal plan. He really sums up the problems that are plaguing many of your diet’s today: too much sugar that is zapping away your energy and vitality.

The second video contains LaLanne’s 10 tips to live a better life, and they include all of the latest health information, along with things you hear about today in The Secret.

Jack LaLanne once said, “People don’t die of old age, they die of neglect.” And he is really the living proof of this statement.

Remember that it’s never too late to make changes for the better when it comes to your health.

I’d suggest that everyone take LaLanne’s challenge in the first video, and cut out the high-sugar foods he lists for five days. You WILL feel better by the end of the week.

If you like, you can also compare LaLanne’s top 10 list to live a better life (in the second video) with my own list below. You’ll see many similarities. Amazing!

1. Have your emotional traumas addressed

2. Get optimal sunlight exposure

3. Drink pure water

4. Avoid toxins

5. Eat the right fats

6. Eat right for your Nutritional Type

7. Eat raw foods

8. Control your insulin and leptin levels (by avoiding sugar)

9. Exercise

10. Sleep properly

Phantom O' Banjo,

Totally agree.....  I am sure that you are referring to a 'medical doctor'.  DYK that Jack trained as a chiropractor.  He has a chiropractic backround.  He chose to enter the health and fitness and the rest is history.  Jack has been a huge chiro advaocate.  He currently endores www.stayfitseniorsforlife.com which is an excellent avenue for seniors to get adjusted and exercise.

His 10 point self improvement plan is just too easy for us to understand, too simple, too direct and places the responsibility on the individual.  It is almost as a society we need the drama of being sick.  It is sad that it took many years of reprogramming and Chiropractic College to erase MOST of the medical and social dogma plugging up my head concerning health.  This was coming from a home where my mother was a midwife!  Imagine if everybody did what they knew they should for their health.  Isn't this what Dr. Mercola keeps telling us?  Take control of your health!  Any way good article Dr. Mercola

At the age of 93, Jack LaLanne is the all time Godfather of health and fitness.  He states that the last time he had sugar was in WWII.
He still jogs and lifts weights at 6:00a.m.   His wife is in superior condition too.

Jack LaLane is such an inspiration to all of us.  NO SUGAR SINCE WWII!!!! That is one of the most remarkable but smartest things I've ever heard!  SUGAR IS THE DOWNFALL of many and the cause of SO MUCH ILLNESS in the world today.

Jack LaLane should be the people take advice from on health and longevity NOT THE INCREDIBLY IGNORANT-ABOUT-THE-FOOD/HEALTH-CONNECTION DOCTORS!

I tell people to "JUST LOOK AT THE HEALTH OF MOST MAINSTREAM MEDICAL PEOPLE, I wouldn't let them touch me with a 10' pole"

AND THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE WHO PROFESS A PLANT BASED WAY OF EATING..... trim, vibrant, full of energy -why? because they eat just as the nature designed the human body to eat, no ifs ands or buts.

I gave up sugar 2 months ago, and it was the BEST thing I ever did for my body and my mind.  The last 2 years, I have slowly been turning all the foods we eat organic.  If I can only tell you the difference it has made in my life.  My energy levels are very high, I've lost 20 pounds and I truly feel wonderful.  Like Jack LaLanne, I take Bragg Raw Unfiltered Organic Apple Cider Vinagar every day.  What an awesome find - I attribute the vinegar to many of the positve health changes that my body has gone through.

Linda924 - Please tell me about the health benefits that you are having from taking the apple cider vinegar - also, how much do you take each day?  I have heard that apple cider vinegar has been used for weight loss, but I do not know of any other benefits from using it - I would sure appreciate hearing about the benefits you have received - thanks!

Jack is still THE MAN!   In his 90's and still going strong, Jack and his bride live in the Eastern SF Bay Area...the man is a legend in exercise in his own time...and his juicer is great also...I fully expect this nutrition & exercise pro to easily exceed 100 years old.

I also love that he has his dog on there a lot.  I think it is a symbol for our association for nature and things natural where our biggest disconnect in "modern" society is.  One very large part of why we are unhealthy as a whole.

Wow, I grew up with Jack on the tv.  It's takes me back to my childhood!  I had completely forgotten about his dog until I saw it in your reply (Lloyd Fielder).  I can now see his dog in my mind.  Jack was not only a good role-model, but what a breath of fresh air he was and is with his positive thinking!  Here's to you Jack!  May you go strong for many more years!!!

You said it Russ...Jack is THE MAN! I used to exercise with Jack and my grandma when I was 5. I loved that. I wish he had continued his exercise show...maybe so many people would not be ill and in such bad shape now.

Today.....

Jack would be put on Ritalin, placed in Special ED and while in his pre teens be started on anti depressants.

While eating his sugarbombs , toxic preservatives, and chemical cocktails at breakfast lunch and dinner ,telling him  he needs more drugs and vaccinations for the remainder of his miserable life.

Cannot argue with success, glad he escaped  the sickly sweet fate.  Go Jack Go!!

Love Jack! My children and I "played" with Jack over forty years ago. Today I am still a healthy, happy, optimistic seventysix year old. I do not have a "doctor" ... regardless of degrees. I use no medicines. I am retired from market gardening, yet still maintain a good size family garden ... organic of course. I watch fastidiously the labels when purchasing any food. We eat grass grazed meats. We are not perfect and do purchase items such as oranges and pineapples that are not possible for us to grow. It is the first of November and yet we are just finishing off the last of the tomatoes and cucumbers ... fresh ones. I attribute it all--the good health and the good growing--to organics and sustainable farm use plus having had people like Jack early in my life. Here's to you, Jack--a green drink of course! Another Elaine.

Yes Jack has had a profound influence on American Health culture, but the Father of Physical Culture in the United States is most definitely Bernarr Macfadden who was a close friend of Paul Bragg.

I was a sugarholic up until about 3 years ago. I used to suffer chronic constipation but fortunately avoided any drugs and medical doctors, till the constipation got so bad I decided to look it up on the web and picked up on the advise that I needed to avoid sugar and refined flour, which I used to eat a lot of, you know, sodas, ice cream, candy, donuts, cookies, white rice, noodles: I practically lived on that junk. I followed the advise to switch to fruits and vegetables and as if by magic the constipation disappeared within days. Ever since I became a believer in good nutrition and that's how you find me here visiting Dr. Mercola's website frequently to find out new ways to stay healthy. I've encouraged friends and relatives to do the same.
