I would advise to start feeding him pureed vegetables when he is physically able. This might be around the age of six months, but you will have to let him guide you through the process.
The worst thing you could do is to start him on grains. That will just perpetuate the central problem with nutrition in this country which is an over reliance on the grain carbohydrates in exclusion of the far healthier vegetables.
