The consumption of tea, but not coffee, is associated with a decreased risk of myocardial infarction. Flavonoids in black tea may reduce myocardial infarction by inhibiting low density lipoprotein cholesterol oxidation, reducing platelet aggregation or ischemic damage. Alternatively, on the basis of their findings, they suggest that .higher tea consumption may be a surrogate for a healthier lifestyle.

COMMENT: I really do not recommend either drink; but clear tea is better than coffee and green tea is better than black tea. Herbal teas are a mixed bag and one does need to be cautious and study them carefully as they can have many drug like effects. Some of these can be beneficial but others can be detrimental. Overall though, coffee or tea are much preferred to juice, milk and soda. Juice, milk and soda should be eliminated prior to giving up tea or coffee.
