Brain Chemistry Plays Role in ADHD

In certain areas of their brains, adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have lower than average activity levels of an enzyme that produces the chemical messenger "dopamine." The finding supports theories that a dopamine disorder plays a role in ADHD.

COMMENT: This explains, if one chooses to use drug therapy, the reason why Wellbutrin tends to help many people with ADHD. Wellbutrin is a drug that increases dopamine levels in the brain. I have found that most people with ADHD seem to improve quite dramatically when they are able to reduce the grains and sugars in their diet. An excellent book in this area is Carbohydrate Addicted Kids, by Heller.
