More than 75% of primary care doctors surveyed said they had prescribed children selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as Prozac, even though these drugs have not been approved for use in children. On the basis of the survey, which included 557 primary care doctors, about 500,000 prescriptions for SSRIs are prescribed annually for adolescents and children under age 18.

COMMENT: Another sad commentary on our culture. It is astonishing that so many children are on these medications when the solution for so many of them is in their own kitchen. Aggressive dietary modifications including: elimination of all sugars, juices, milk, and most all grains (Heller’s Carbohydrate Addicted Kids) will produce remarkable results in the vast majority of these children.
