Herb Triggers Cancer Cell Death

chinese herb, huang qin, cell death, leukemia, cancer remedyA substance found in the popular Chinese herb huang qin triggers the death of tumor cells, while having virtually no effect on healthy cells.

Many researchers have looked to the capability of controlled cell suicide as a means of fighting cancer. But it is a risky approach, because it involves the danger of damaging healthy tissue, too. Scientists have been searching for substances that induce cell death selectively in tumor cells.

Now scientists of the German Cancer Research Centre have discovered that wogonin, a component of huang qin, causes apoptosis (cellular suicide) in cultured leukemia cells without affecting healthy blood cells. Wogonin has already been shown to reduce cancer growth in mice.

Dr. Min Li-Weber of the Division of Immunogenetics has found that wogonin works by radically increasing the formation of hydrogen peroxide in tumor cells compared to healthy cells. The peroxide, in turn, produces a calcium response, which triggers the apoptosis reaction.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

For those of you who are new to the newsletter, I’d like to reiterate that while I view herbs as frequently helpful and virtually non-toxic when compared to patent drugs, they rarely treat the cause of your disease. I view most of them as frequently effective symptomatic band-aids.  Therefore, if you depend solely on herbs without addressing the underlying cause of your disease, you’re still likely avoiding the real cure.

So what are the underlying causes of most, if not all disease? I strongly believe it boils down to three basics of equal importance:

  1. Your emotional and mental state
  2. Your nutrition
  3. Your physical activity

All advice essentially falls under one of these three basic necessities for optimal health, which create a circle of either positive or negative ramifications, depending on whether you address them appropriately or not.

Awesome Cancer-Busting Approaches

Without disputing the value and effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an alternative to the flawed healthcare system in the United States, I believe you can VIRTUALLY ELIMINATE your risk of cancer and chronic disease, and radically improve your chances of recovering from cancer if you currently have it, by following these relatively simple risk reduction strategies.

You won’t read or hear much about them because they have not been formally "proven" yet by conservative researchers. However, did you know that 85 percent of therapies currently recommended by conventional medicine have never been formally proven either?!

Here are my Twelve Strategies:

  1. Reduce or eliminate your processed food, sugar and grain carbohydrate intake.  Yes, this is even true for whole unprocessed organic grains as they tend to rapidly break down and drive your insulin and leptin levels up, which is the last thing you need to have happening if you are seeking to resolve a cancer.

  2. Control your fasting insulin and leptin levels. This is the end result, and can be easily monitored with the use of simple and relatively inexpensive blood tests.

  3. Normalize your ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats by taking a high-quality krill oil or fish oil and reducing your intake of most processed vegetable oils.

  4. Get regular exercise. One of the primary reasons exercise works is that it drives your insulin levels down. Controlling insulin levels is one of the most powerful ways to reduce your cancer risks.

  5. Normalize your vitamin D levels and vitamin A levels by getting plenty of sunlight exposure and consider careful supplementation when this is not possible. If you take oral vitamin D and have a cancer, it would be very prudent to monitor your vitamin D blood levels regularly.

  6. Get regular, good sleep.

  7. Eat according to your nutritional type. The potent anti-cancer effects of this principle are very much underappreciated. When we treat cancer patients in our clinic this is one of the most powerful anti-cancer strategies we have.

  8. Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, household chemical cleaners, synthetic air fresheners and air pollution.
  9. Limit your exposure and provide protection for yourself from information carrying radio waves produced by cell phone towers, base stations, phones and WiFi stations.

  10. Avoid frying or charbroiling your food.  Boil, poach or steam your foods instead.

  11. Have a tool to permanently reprogram the neurological short-circuiting that can activate cancer genes. Even the CDC states that 85 percent of disease is caused by emotions. It is likely that this factor may be more important than all the other physical ones listed here, so make sure this is addressed. Energy psychology seems to be one of the best approaches and my particular favorite tool, as you may know, is the Emotional Freedom Technique. German New Medicine is another powerful tool.

  12. Eat at least one-third of your food raw.

Over the last several months I have become increasingly convinced that for any and every ailment God has provided a natural remedy.

I so strongly believe this. I think it's down to that all-encompassing 'energy' we're made of... if there's something to harm, there's something to heal. Balance is what everything is about.

I always just love using the analogy of the nettle to the dock. You get stung, so what's the first thing you do? Look around and you'll almost certainly find a dock leaf nearby to cure the itch. Nature always provides something.

Yes, I beleive that too Patty.  I have had an arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) for about 6 months now.  My Dr. put me on a drug called Toprol, but when researching this drug I found it was to be for high blood pressure.  I didn't have high blood pressure, and then it became too low.  So I started researching something that could control my heartbeat and found it two weeks ago.  Its simply Taurine (amino acid) I am doing so well on this and off the drug.  You are right God gave us the ability to either heal ourselves or some really good supplements that are natural and not dangerous to take.  This product really works

What you say reminds me of my favorite axioms from Tibetan medicine:

God does not permit the disease without first providing the cure.

It's heartening to see people, who not only "believe" that everything is Energy, but make it a natural foundation of their whole life. For anyone interested in exploring in depth the origin and the manifestations of Primordial Energy, I would suggest the book "IN THE LIGHT OF TRUTH: THE GRAIL MESSAGE" (original on German). And those interested in spiritual cinema can look up my site under Cinemaseekers.

I'm sure we could find remedies to replace all pharmaceutical drugs in nature if we look hard enough.

Aaltrude - - In case you didn't know this already, ...the truth is that most pharmacuetical's are composed of synthesized compounds which were originally found in a natural botanical.

Pharmaceutical companies steal from nature by isolating a specific active compound found in a medicinal plant and by synthesizing and also concentrating what was found in the plant, ... the pharmaceutical company is able to ' Patent ' and thus claim sole ownership of the drug that they market. They could not do this with a natural botanical, such as a healing herb which one cannot legally patent and thus "own".

It is the fact that the active ingredient identified within the botanical has been "isolated", "synthesized" and "concentrated" , ...that makes it toxic to the body and no longer the natural healing compound that nature intended it to be, in it's original, natural form.

We probably would be told by the Rx police that it's illegal tho Aaltrude.  Why? because they can't make money off herbs.

Let's hear it for the "herbalists" hip hip hooray

keep working for us guys

More testament to the healing power of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Chinese herbology itself is a wealth of wisdom and healing.

Great to find another Susan Weed fan here.  Her principals and approach to herbs are unique and work.  What is over looked is also what she conveys in her teachings - one's mental attitude as well.  Not all herbalists are the same and take different approaches (heroic approach etc).  I too agree with you and respectfully disagree with Dr. Mercola on this one.  Herbs too are a form of nutrition or cure OR bandaid when necessary for the body - just as nutrition is.

Not all herbalists are the same  just as not all nutritionists are the same.  To lump us all together in our approaches underlines the lack of real understanding of the use of herbs.  The fact that he even made a statement like 'herbs are like bandaids' is obvious about his superficial understanding of the application of herbs or herbology.  A serious study of likeminded herbalists such as S. Weed would broaden at least his understanding about how  diverse herbology and its application can be.  She is very connected to nature...not all 'herbalists' are in that sense and this intuitive approach is an important part of it all.  Herbs are also part of 'nutrition'.  To exclude them as not a signficant part of the supportive, tonifying, healing/medicinal etc nutritional chain is simply lack of understanding.

On another note, Dr. M is so 'into' what he is doing and passing so much other useful information to us, even with a team to help him, he couldn't possibly have the time to seriously study say, S. Weed's approach to herbs and the body.  I also think he would be pleasantly surprised about her thoughts on food.

I have to respectfully disagree with Dr Mercolas statement that herbs are frequently symptonatic band-aids. of course, I agree that the underlying factors he mentions are the basis of health but he is lumping all herbs into one category. I have several of Susan Weed's herbal books and I agree with how she puts it: there are basically 4 categories of herbs,  nutrional, tonic, stimulating/sedating and medicinal. Nutritional herbs are those that support health as foods--burdock root, red clover blossoms, nettles would be a couple  examples. tonic herbs could be used as needed and stimulating/sedating less often, while stronger medicinal herbs should be used only rarely--golden seal etc. She has a list of these in her latest on line newsletter for those of you who are interested. She also advises a whole foods diet rich in vegetables and herbs with whole grains and pastured meat/eggs, and goat milk products. I like her approach of getting all our nutrients from the herbs and foods that humans have always used to support health.

Debrah, thanks a lot! You saved me the trouble of a lengthy reply. I am constantly amazed at the fact that so few people know the difference between Nutritional and Medicinal herbs, or for that matter, even know that there is a difference!! Whenever my M D ( which I am forced to see due to the insane system called Medicare  ) tells me to avoid herbs, I look her right in the eye and say "Darn, but I really LIKE peas and carrots."

MUCH education needs to be done. Help us out here, Dr Mercola!!

Yes!

I am fond of telling "Doubting Doctors" that 85% of prescription drugs being used today originated with a botanical source!  Ex- Digitalis w/ the foxglove plant, Aspirin with willow bark.

Dr Mercolas statement that herbs are frequently symptonatic band-aids strikes me as odd. However, it is my experience that my patient's have been well educated to expect quick symptomatic results even if they are using non medical "alternative" care that is intended to address the problem. That can make it difficult for non medical doctors such as Chiropractors or Naturopaths to present and follow through with Careplans intended to fix the problem.

People "self diagnosing" and treating are often the worst. They routinely have no idea of what the problem is or why they are doing the treatment that they are.

We had a concept in Chiropractic College called "disease of the month club". Whatever is current is what they have. Whatever is fashionable is what they are taking. Whatever.
