Incredible Flying Sharks

Every once in awhile I come across photos that are so incredible, I can’t resist sharing them. This is one such occasion.

Sharks are nature's most efficient killing machine, and can hunt and kill their prey with remarkable ease. These photographs capture the amazing splendor -- and horror -- of two-ton great white sharks traveling at speeds up to 35 mph, and leaping 10 feet out of the water, to catch their prey.

I just can't help but feel sorry for the seal... Go seal! Go! I live in Australia and love going to the beach but those pictures aren't going to help my peace of mind next time I'm catching some waves. I hope I don't look like a seal...

Unfortunately, in the Great White's eyes, you look very similar to seals espcially when floating or on a serf board.  Fortunately, however, these pictures were likely taken at a remote location.  As a caution, you should not likely swim anywhere in the vicinity of seals...

I totally agree.  My heart went out to the seal.

I realize that sharks and other predators have a right to life also.  But, I support the little guys like the seals.

What I don't support is the killing of wolves, grizzlies, polar bears, birds by the Bush Administration, who is opening pristine lands and wildlife refuges for questionable practices, including coal fired power plants, the drilling of oil and gas, because friends of V.P. Cheney want massive killings on the still endangered wolves, which they have recently delisted --not because they've reached sustainable levels, but because of politics and opening the doors to shootings and poisoning of wolf families. This was planned while the animals were still on the endangered species list.

Amazing!  I love the cool photographs that have been published recently.
What a wonderful metaphor to follow yesterday's story with Gardasil and young women.  Let shark=Mercola and seal=young women.    Although, these pictures are depicting what nature intended.

Dan Akroid's old Saturday Night Live LAND SHARK skit ("Candy Gram" - may still be on www.youtube.com )  seems also, image wise, appropriate in analogy, en referring to MERCK and the Jewel Encrusted
Underpants crowd over at FOR PROFIT, damn the body count, Big Pharma.

This is a powerful reminder that evolution isn't always what it's cranked up to be. The seal, being a mammal, is a far higher stage of evolution than the shark, but that doesn't keep the shark from dining on his favorite delicacy.

Humans are arguably the highest stage of evolution on earth, but that doesn't keep us safe from all kinds of natural hazards, never mind the man-made ones we foolishly indulge in, such as cars, pollution and wars.

Where did predator-prey relationships come from if not intelligent design? They didn't just happen by chance.

WOW!  These are amazing creatures.  They have been around for a very long time evolutionarily.  Their design is perfection for the role they play in the environmental balance.  Nature knows what it's doing.

As a person who spent three years in his twenties basically bobbing for hours in his off time in the ocean off Huntington and Newport Beach in California, wearing a wet suit on a surf board, and appearing very seal like, I am very happy that sharks have good senses and think humans taste nasty.

I would hear stories of the great whites that patroled southern California Beaches near the Catalina Islands, and occasionally of shark attacks, but I only lost the joy of surfing when I found a surf board with a three foot wide shark bite out of it, complete with broken shark teeth left in the board.

I never went back to the beach with a surf board, and even my trips for swimming and a boogy board were rare, and infrequent.  Knowing now that sharks can jump that high, I am amazed at the relaxed attitude of shark fishermen, and divers in shark areas.  That shark puts Air Jordan to shame.

I enjoyed the photographs,  the seal sure gives the shark a run for it.

I would have MUCH more preferred to see photos of the sharks leaping into the air, minus their chomping on the seal.  That is something that stays in my mind in a most horrid way.  Ewwwwww.

I agree, Cat-gurl. Why did Dr. Mercola think we'd want to see these photos in the first place? What next, a wolf killing a lamb, a dog chasing and killing a cat? Who needs this?
